A question and an observation.

Got CK today . Actually I checked first thing this morning and there was no post. I was on my way out just after dinner and there was CK on the floor by my leter box. Aaarrrrggghhh...I'd missed out on six hours of play!!!!

Anway, my question: What benefits are there in creating a Bishopric? By reading the manual I can only see the down side to it i.e the lack of control over an independently minded Bishop.

My observation: I changed my inheretence law to primogeniture so that eldest sons would inherit. The tool tip said that changing this law may upset the realm. It did. The only Count I have as a vassal rebelled against me....my eldest son . Its seems a wee bit strange for my eldest son to rebel against me as a direct result of me changing the laws so that HE would be assured of inhereting everything!!! :wacko:

Aye, I think that inheritance thing is something to be sorted...

There are various advantages to creating bishoprics, when you have a large realm, not least that they give you piety, thereby giving you a bit more leeway with regards to your crusading duties. Piety also reduces you BB quicker. However, don't add provinces to an already created bishopric as that does nothing for you, you have to create a new one altogether for it to help.

Yup - Bishopric = 160-170 piety or so, which is huge. Also, if you have to reduce your demesne size this is a nice way to do it. IIRC Archbishoprics require you to keep the province and give away a Duchy (lots of one province Duchies laying about). So don't create the Bishopric if the same county could be an archbishopric (this assumes you're a King).

I had the same problem with changing the laws on inheritance. In your case, if your eldest son was your only vassal then in fact your change had no effect on anyone. The same guy inherited under the new law as under the old, the only thing that changed was what would happen in future generations (or to vassals you don't have yet). Makes no sense.

Historically, eldest sons sometimes rebelled even though they stood to inherit. A prime example is Henry, eldest son of Henry II of England, who rebelled even though he stood to inherit -- because he didn't want to wait for his father's death.

You did select your state from the list again right, because that messed with my head for a few seconds when I tried to load a save file for the first time in CK...

Yeah I did but it didn't work at first. later after I'd switched my pc on and off it did load my save game (but still not the autosaves). All to no avail in the end though multiple ctds in my two games have prevented me getting past 1084.

Never mind I'll start another, I'm still enjoying the game
