I've read all the dev diaries, and I love the sound of the division design mechanic, especially the ability to alter your division templates on the fly without all the brigade-moving hassle of Hoi3.

I do have one question though. Supposing I had been using a large infantry template, say 12 battalions of infantry, and had pushed the enemy back, but as we advanced the front had widened, so that my divisions could no longer cover the full front. This seems like an excellent time to trim them down or split them into smaller divisions to maintain frontal coverage.

If I then make a smaller template of say 6 battalions, if I simply converted the existing divisions into this template, I will still only have the same number of now reduced divisions , and all my trained and experienced men and their equipment will be returned to the stockpile. I will clearly have to make more divisions.

Will I have to retrain all these men and lose their experience, or will the game remember that I have this big stockpile of already trained and experienced infantrymen to put into new divisions?

I really hope the game will track the experience level of your off-map stockpiled men, otherwise it will seriously disincentivise ever reducing the strength of your divisions if you can't just reshuffle the men as experienced reinforcements or men for a new division.

Any devs that could shed light on this?

I dont see why it shouldnt work the same way from the manpower pool as it does from division to division. If you modify a divisions template or disband the division the game will send home the least experienced rookies and keep the veterans at the front, increasing the overall experience level of your divison. That should work the same way from the stockpile aswell.

Would it be possible to have marine divisions with tanks and artillery, but set them to not receive heavy equipment until they are ashore? The idea being that they avoid the amphibious penalties of the heavy equipment, but once established start receiving tanks. The USMC by 44-45 have tank battalions in their TOE.

That would be a nice feature I would love to see.

I think we need to see the specifics on amphibious landings with penalties, perhaps if you are using proper assault boats/ships or amphibious tracked vehicles the penalties are minimized for heavy equipment in the division?

You can filter exactly what equipment each division can get. So yes, you could deny them access to tanks and they would be considered regular marines untill they recieve their tanks, just as motorized infantry is considered regular infantry if they dont have any trucks. I dont know if it would conflict with the bonus to amphibious landings tho. Then again, it wouldnt be any different to just add the tanks to the template after they landed which would have the exact same effect.

there are no landing craft in the game. You land your troops with regular convoys. There are 3 technologies that improve naval invasions tho, with speeding up the landing process and increasing their defense
