A Prisoner in a Foreign Land, Oh My!

Catchy title aside, the father of the woman my character, Count Anselmo of Lucca, married is in prison. In France. I don't really know why, but I believe it likely has something to do with his being a courtier in Phillippe I's court and having 'strong claims' on the French throne. I believe he is also the Duke of Bohemia.

Getting to the point: he's in prison, and this does nothing for me. What I want to know is whether its possible to get him out. If not, so be it, but if so, how do I go about doing it?

For future reference, I still want to know how to do this, but alas, its no longer necessary. It seems Phillippe grew tired of the old man...and had him executed...:/

Unfortunately, I don't think you can pay his ransom unless he's a vassal/courtier of yours. It would be nice if you had the feature to offer to pay the ransom of any character you wanted, subject to the captor's approval of course.

As a work around you could do one of two things.
1) Simply save your game, load up the save with you choosing to play as the King of France, release Count Anselmo, then save before finally loading up once again to enjoy your game as whatever you were playing originally.
2) Give 'Gifts' to Count Anselmo until he has enough money to pay his own ransom. I think he will do so automatically if his gold reaches the appropriate threshold (I believe it's 70 in the case of a Count).
