I know we shouldn't be talking about DLC's before the game is even released, but It would be really cool to play the war of 1812 as well!

Any thoughts?

I would love to beat the Americans in any DLC, but i don't see it, maybe and early Revolutionary DLC would be batter, 1795 to 1805

Well, won't MOTE be on the CK2 model of DLCs? Of course, these would be massive DLCs, but I want to see the gameplay extended to the whole world, since the Napoleonic Wars were a world war.

Really, what I want is a war and politics game that covers the Revolutionary period as a whole, starting from 1770 and extending to 1836, with Europa Universalis' time span cut down so that we have a perfect bridge from Europa Universalis to Victoria just as there's an unbroken chain of Victoria-Hearts of Iron-East versus West.

I imagine some expansion packs and mods will bring it close. At the very least we need:
- Revolutionary France (earlier start date)
- Revolutionary America (and afterwards)
- Latin Revolutions (extends game to 1836, fleshes out the whole Americas and probably some other parts of the world)

I think this is all a bit of wishful thinking. The game focuses on the Napoleonic wars which were for the most part only set in Europe(Egypt isnt in Europe but its very close in terms of naval supply lines). The war of 1812 in America was somewhat unrelated as it was more about American expansionist ambitions. I'd love to be able to have different starting dates in the Napoleonic wars( Campaign of 1813,1814,1815, etc.) (Assuming that you cant change the starting date as it seems to be set for 1805). I am unsure how the game would be able to handle Britain owning India and Canada without having the AI ship colonial troops back home to fight Napoleon, thus making Britain capable of conquering Europe. This was a recurring problem with Victoria II because indian soldiers would often find themselves fighting on european battlefields by their evil english overlords which nullified the manpower problem England was saddled with when compared with other countries. I doubt the aim of the game was to bridge the gap between Europa and Victoria otherwise they wouldnt have called it March of the Eagles.

That seems like a whole lot of work, they haven't had extensions of maps in any DLC that I know of. I imagine Revolutionary France would be the farthest they would go, and I'm not too keen to complain.

Bloody Canadian propaganda.

While I think it might be interesting to have War of 1812 have the US involved in the game, I just don't think the US was important enough or powerful enough to warrant it. At this time period, we barely even had a professional army at all and most of the battles we fought were tiny compared to the scale of what was happening in Europe. Plus I doubt you can really model the battles on the Great Lakes well with this engine.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Add political elements with a larger map scope and the extended timeline and you have a killer game. All the revolution aspects of this time could be fleshed out so that maybe you can take the side of the revolutionary forces or something to that effect.

I agree, while it would be nice to model the effect of The War of 1812 it really was a small sideshow in the larger European conflict and would probably be better handled with Events. I also agree that the combat would be difficult to model since N. American battles involved such small numbers.

I'd say it was pretty interesting, particularly if you go the whole hog with the various wars for independence. Even if not, it'll be a fun thing to involve - the Haitian revolution was in the timeframe too IIRC, which was closely tied to Napoleon abandoning his dreams of an Empire in the Americas - and the war of 1812 as Britain would pose an interesting viewpoint in terms of the possibility of recovering the thirteen colonies or the creation of an independent Native American state, which I believe was on the cards.

Hey, if its not a DLC, it'll probably be modded in.

Yeah, the US is the most boring part of the Americas, IMO. Haiti's revolution, for practicality's sake, gave the US all of French North America. Latin America is quite fun, but I hope they don't do the same revolution mechanic as Eu3. That wasn't cool.
Also the India subcontinent never gets any action in PDS games. The AI Britain won't take the lands in EU3, and in Vicky2 they start with the Indian countries that they don't own sphered!

Just because a view does not follow the Hollywood version does not really mean its Canadian propaganda, just 1 of a few reason for the war, US tend not to like to think of their history from an imperialism or expansionist view, that was just those nasty Europeans, but try telling that to the native American's, but your right too small scale compare to everything else going on, too open to player exploits and too close to the end of the game time

I think he might have been being sarcastic?

But I actually think a great deal could be gained by extending the time period a bit, fleshing out the internal affairs, and keeping the current map.

It would still be a bit small, of course, and it would probably be far too much work to even consider for a DLC, but oh well.

Nah, lots of work for little gain, and it doesn't make sense for vast armies to be moved from Europe to fight in the Americas. It was always considered a sideshow, and battles tended to be small ones fought between colonial militia and a few mercenaries.

While an American theater DLC would be interesting I think it would be something better left to mods. And by the way the War of 1812 wouldn't be the only thing that would fall into the timeframe. You would also have the Barbary Wars, the potential escalation of the Quasi-War into a war with France, and the Indian Wars in the Old Northwest.

Back on topic, all I would like to see is a 1789 start, though 1805 is already perfectly fine for the little corporal wars :)
