Will fallen empires be able to find you/establish contact with you in any way other than you finding them while exploring? Since they seem prone to interfere rather severely (http://i.imgur.com/LsRgGSu.jpg) if you pursue dangerous research, the concern is that the optimal strategy would be to explore as little as possible in order to avoid finding said empires if you want to pursue dangerous research.

I think they have build in triggers and if they go off, they will do X.

X probably meaning waking up and become active, not always only going for who triggered it.
