So, after observing France single-handedly obliterate half of the armies of Europe, I wondered, what does the community actually think, I mean, some say France is the most overpowered nation in Europa Universalis IV, others say that it is the victim of hate from imbeciles, but what do the majority think?

So I decided to make a poll, (I don't think there is a poll function, and I wouldn't use it eitherways) to find out. I'll count up the posts that are for France being overpowered, and those against, if it being overpowered wins, I'll add what they think should be done about it, (if enough reasons are given with the vote.)

Although you don't have to, I'd be grateful if you could give a few sentences explaining why you think this, this is simply to see why people as a whole think what they do.

So, as an example (and this is what I think by the way.) :

France is overpowered, it can be defeated by a player early on in the game, but later on, most players will find it hard to defeat them without divine intervention, and for the AI, it's impossible, as they can't take advantage of things, like a human could. Therefore I suggest nerfing france a little (not much) and utterly destroying lucky nations, and buffing the nearby great powers (like Austria and Castille), which would make a level battleground for the nations in the area.

I think You got a bit lost in what You want. If it's a poll, then You need a simple answer: France is OP/France isn't OP. If You want discussion, You should be asking about reasoned argument.

i think France is OP in player's hand. When i play France, i can achieve everything i want, but the AI is not that good, so in some game France is super strong and in some other is just meh

France is not OP, with the appropriate allies anyone can survive them. Try playing a muslim nation near the Ottomans, that is more difficult because there is no Muslim counter balance to them.

I agree that you can survive France with the right allies, but the AI is hopeless and France simply picks them off, one by one.

France is just big and blobby. Once the player had reached a sufficient size France can easily be broken up in a few minor wars.
France suffers an even worse fate if there is an England player as they can just force a union with half of Europe helping them simply by taking the mission before 1475.

France is definitely OP, but it's hardly a high priority. The BBB is practically a running joke now. I doubt it will ever change. France is very beatable anyways.

France is not OP

France is powerful compared to the other powers. However, this is due to a lack of domestic policy mechanics. The player doesn't have to face half the turmoil and jump nearly as many hurdles as the kings of France did in order to centralize power and pave the way for Louis XIV's absolute monarchy. France should be this powerful, but it should have to work for it, instead of it just being a foregone conclusion. This should give other countries played by AI or humans opportunities to take advantage of France in her weakness. Domestic policy mechanics would be a boon to the balance of the game.

there's two simple strategies when it comes to France in ironman Europe, depending on who you are playing of course

Ally France for the entire game to kill Austria and/or Castille
Kill France early with Austria and/or Castille

if you don't use any of these options....France will find you, and France will kill you

In certain cases, yes. In other cases, no. In my most recent game, France attacked an HRE OPM, Austria/Bohemia and some other OPMs intervened and called me(Castile, without Aragon) in. France sent a 120K doomstack to Bohemia and was defeated before I could get there. The AI strategy has drastically improved since 1.3.

Pretty much this. France's dominance came from a long time of centralisation, religious troubles and being surrounded by hostile powers.

Nice idea! You've somehow managed to nerf and nor nerf France at the same time! :p
