This is a plea for Paradox to include the "change_tag =" function in Hearts of Iron IV.
And while you are at it throw in "switch_tag" too :)

Hearts of Iron 3 had this function removed for some reason and it made modding VERY restrictive. Not sure why would Paradox intentionally remove a function that was present in EU III but removing this one small syntax has significantly reduced the modding capabilities of large mods.

For anyone not into modding curious what the hell I am talking about, the "change_tag =" allows one country to turn into another country while still giving the player control over new country. In Hearts of Iron 3 the only way to form a new country was to have it annex the old country which immediately meant game over for a human player.

Example: like turning Brandenburg into HRE in EU 4.

Now Its important we don't get confused with the various flags available due to ideology since if its anything like Victoria 2 that is not a "change_tag =" function but simply a function that decided which flag and name to use based on a ruling party of a country which is a great way to save resources instead of having to create new countries for each ideology.

If you are still not convinced we modders need this, than please do it for Mussolini... here he is begging for it:

I believe I saw Da9l tag switch at the end of the last World War Wednesday, so it seems your plea was answered.


It was a console command, also it appeared the command he used was "nocb" which I assume meant "No Casus Belli". Granted, I wasn't paying close attention at what he wrote.

It was, that allowed him to immediately DoW USA. He didn't tag switch at all. Roosevelt appeared only because Daniel had the US selected on the diplomatic screen while he was trying to work out why he couldn't DoW the Philippines.
A more refined explanation would do wonders for this thread as you are particularly unclear in your original post.
He's not unclear if you are a modder. The script command he wants would be used in events triggered during the game. It allows one country to be transformed into another, while someone was playing as that country. So I think an example would be for someone to be playing as British Raj and it to then be liberated from being a puppet by an event, and change to India?

If I remember correctly he took control of the USA near the end of the last WWW to check out the navy.

As I understand it from the original post, this is about switching a nation to another nation. Like Turning Japan into Nationalist Spain, be it the human player or not.

I am not sure, but I think in the very last minute he switched to the USA. For a few secondes we saw all the american divisions stationed on the islands and their fleets.

Edit: Well, was a tad late.

Either way, tag switching via console isn't the same as the ability to work changing nations into events. I deffo think it would be a very handy thing for modders if it was feasible to have in the game.

Another thing that would be nice would be to have an option for the console to be enabled in multiplayer, so we can debug with people.

Haha, I agree it would be good for multiple person debug, although perhaps have it as an option rather than always-on, as it could make competitive MP games "interesting" :).

A long time ago @podcat said something about their being no forming of larger states (e.g., no forming of the Scandinavian Union), so at least as of then it looked like there would be no tag-switching event, but the game's been through a lot of development since then so it may well have changed.

Actually what Daniel did in the stream was to write "fogoff" and then "fogon". Someone might be capable of guessing what those do and I'll give you a hint: It ain't a tag change.

Another thing that would be nice would be to have an option for the console to be enabled in multiplayer, so we can debug with people.

In the previous WWW series (Johan vs Daniel) I believe the console was in play because Daniel said Johan used cheat codes to get nukes faster than he should have and Johan didn't deny it, he just sat there smugging and laughing.

So for their build it is so it might be an option when hosting MP games.

It's just "tag USA" or "tag ITA" to change countries. I never heard of "change tag" before.

Edit: each nation has a 3 letter tag which can be found in the game files and you just plug them in after the word tag like I did above to switch to the USA or Italy.

It's just "tag USA" or "tag ITA" to change countries. I never heard of "change tag" before.

Edit: each nation has a 3 letter tag which can be found in the game files and you just plug them in after the word tag like I did above to switch to the USA or Italy.

Except as the OP pointed out, this is about the 'change_tag' command for events/decisions, which is a very useful tool for modding, and nothing to do with the console commands.

OP should probably have put (Modding) or something in the topic title so avoid confusion by people who don't actually read what he wrote...:rolleyes:
