I purchased DV 6 weeks ago. I stopped playing it 5 weeks and 6 days ago because I can't play more than 50 or 60 years without ever more frequent CTDs as explained here. I understand Paradox's patching policy and I realize that my thread isn't going to accomplish anything, but here goes:

Six weeks with hardly a peep from any official source about the game stopping crashes is unacceptable. I have to believe that after six weeks and all the save games that have been submitted, Paradox knows what the problem is. So what I am asking is that Paradox please release a hotfix for the crashbug only so that I and many others can actually use the product that we paid $15 for a month and a half ago.

I want to play this game. I am not asking for any other fixes. As far as I'm concerned most of the other issues are either minor or can be classified as design decisions, and Paradox would be perfectly within their rights to say "sorry we won't patch that." But a show-stopping, game crashing bug that makes the product impossible to use is another story.

This thread will probably end up closed like all the others do, but I don't think I'm being unreasonable here. I don't consider myself a ranter or a complainer, and I've been a loyal Paradox customer for almost 7 years now. If others choose to chime in, please keep this thread civil, and please don't go off-topic discussing other bugs, issues, or Paradox's design decisions. I am just trying to make an effort to get a stable game that we can enjoy for more than 50 years of gameplay.

Paradox recently patched Napoleon's Ambition, so I have a feeling that Deus Vult is the next game scheduled for a patch.
I also have a feeling that Two Thrones is next. :D

What all other closed threads? I don't remember closing any threads requesting a patch. I could see myself closing one if there is another active thread existing or if the thread get filled with pointless rantings.

While I would really want to see some other non-crashbug related things fixed in any patch or hotfix, the value of this problem cannot be underestimated. Not that I speak from experience, I stopped playing after one game month because the Kingdom of Leon and Sicily were rapidly isolating me with mass-vassalizations and I chickened out before any crashes occurred.

Imagine you paid €15 = ~$23. That's even more rich.
I believe patching NA was much easier, as there were no CTDs and so. I was mainly about game ballancing. DV, on the other hand, has these nasty mysterious CTDs.

You're right. Things tend to be a bit more civil here in the CK forum. I guess I was generalizing based on the EU and HOI forums. Many patch related threads there do get closed quickly. Now that I think back, I don't see it as often here. My apologies to you and the other mods here in CK-land. It was not my intention to accuse you of anything.

I just got DV last night and have been enjoying it thoroughly... that is, until the dreaded Fatal Error, which for some reason has kept popping up at the end of Nov/early Dec in 1087 and 1088.

Why does it lag at the end of each month?

Anyway, I LOVE DV. Like Victoria: Revolutions, it has made it a new and wonderful game. I look forward to a hotfix.

EDIT: I have answered my question re: monthly lag. Good show, Paradox :) Yay for purging.

I had another game where I was having a crash fairly consistently, though unlike before I don't know if this was occurring on the exact same date. As I looked more closely, I wonder whether I may have found (one of?) the reasons for a crash. Or it could just be coincidence.

I had beaten a pagan tribe in war, and I had taken the province of the High Chief. His realm now consisted of a single province held by a regular chieftain. The High Chief was around 58-60 years old. Twice the game crashed within the next year or so, and I wondered if he was crashing because he died with heirs yet no provinces? Then once as I was playing it out over the same time frame again, he succeeded in getting the single province to become his so that the chieftain's shield was replaced by that of the High Chief. And this time, the crash didn't happen. I've since played another 5+ years.

So I wonder if there is a crash when a higher title holder dies without owning a county??

I don't get CTDs that are regular enough to be a problem, although I stopped playing temporarily due to the pledging problem. The only reason I'm posting here is to say that even though it doesn't affect me, I support this idea. In fact, even if fixing the CTDs in a hotfix means it will take a longer time to fix the pledging problem, I'd prefer if a hotfix was released, since me just not caring for the weird vassals takes a backseat to people not even being capable of playing.

I just don't understand how some can get constant CTD's and then there are some of us who never or only got one CTD the whole game?? Glad I don't have to figure out what the problem is and that could be why it's taking so long. I would think crash bugs would the be hardest to find. I'd rather see an emergency patch to stop the dang 3 second delay at the end of every month. That's my 2nd biggest gripe, the first is still the stand still wars. I have a strange feeling this is going to have to be reverted back to the old way. Unless Johan can figure a way to have the AI declare war on all surrounding provinces of the area they are going to war with. Else they just gonna stand there forever an ever.

At this point (month and so since the release) I don't think a "hotfix" would be the appropriate thing to name it. I prefer Paradox to take their time and release a stable patch that fixes the all the major issues. ;)

At this point after 6 weeks Riddermark I believe that is what they are doing. Since it's been said there will probably be one patch and one patch only for DV. This is where Matrixgames stands out above Paradox. They continue to support their games years after release if there are bugs found and even adding new content for no cost. I guess Paradox got all that money out of their fans they don't have to worry anymore about keeping things patched up top notch anymore.

Where as it been said that there will be only 'one patch' for DV ?
