If you're lucky enough to get a gold colony, income is unaffected as gold is tied to goods produced rather than production. WAD?

I would say it is WAD since its never been tied to production, just goods produced. That is why you never see much payoff from your production investments in a gold province until you hit that lovely Stock Exchange at the end
