EU4 is funner and more engaging with strong player immersion. A News feature, similar to Vic 2 and Family Chronicle features, would be a way to increase immersion without affecting gameplay balance.
I imagine this feature as window you could bring up at any time during play. This window would look different depending on the time period, so in the early game you could have the window look like a town bulletin and the late game be an actual newspaper, and this window would display any stories or news in your nation. The fun with this feature is that any information presented would be told from the perspective of the nation's people. This gives EU4 a way to present typical game functions, such as increasing stability or declaring war, in a more dramatic light.
Say the Human player is France and declares war on England. This war declaration is normally just that, but, with news bulletin, the player could be presented with all kinds of info about that war declaration. Maybe the French nation is elated about the war and people flock to join, or people fear the upcoming fight and condemn the player's choice. These small stories make the tag you are playing feel like a real nation, and can give your choices real emotional weight.
Here is a list of alternative things the News feature would be useful for:
1. Gives developers and modders ways to present information outside events.
2. A way to track your achievements in game (Our 6/6/6 Swedish king conquered Denmark 20 years ago today).
3. Present challenges and tasks for the player for purely fun reasons (Our Queen demands more beaver pelts! Opens beaver farms across country until supply is met.)
Eu4 is funner and more engaging with strong player immersion. Having a tool that helps players tell the story of their nation, and self drive the game, would be amazing. I hope to see something like this one day.
