I saw this suggested somewhere else, but we really need some changes to how succession works. I just saw some random duke down in Tlemcen become King of Scotland and I was just flabbergasted over why the king of Maghreb (my cousin) would ALLOW this to happen.
Also Maghreb has been eating titles from my realm because it's a crusader kingdom, so many of the counts & dukes in my realm contributed to that crusade and have marital or dynastic ties there.
When a title would pass between realms in this way, we need a way to control that that isn't dependent on Crown Authority, because even Absolute Crown Authority right now cannot prevent out-of-realm inheritance. And I think if it's going to get fixed, it would be nice if we got something a little more engaging than just titles passing to some random dynasty member of the person who died: a peace treaty screen, like in HOI4.
Someone earlier suggested this for what should happen when someone dies and they have partition succession, and it sounded GREAT. But this same logic should be applied to titles passing peacefully between realms through inheritance.
For example:
Let's say the King of France and the HRE are at peace. Allied even. The Duke of Brabant dies, and his primary heir is the Count of Orleans, who received Orleans after his mother died. In the actual medieval period, the HRE would not suddenly just ALLOW some vassal of the French to hold land in the northern HRE full-stop. There would have to be a compromise. Maybe the Count of Orleans' brother would receive the duchy title. Maybe Orleans would pass to the brother and the current count would move to the HRE to become the duke. OR, if the HRE were feeling testy, they could demand that Brabant passes, but the new Duke becomes their vassal and keeps Orleans.
The point being, there's a chance for CK3 to have a really nuanced system that depends on the interplay between characters, who has power over who, etc. You could factor in all sorts of other systems: dread, tyranny, vassal opinion, alliances, and military power. The end result could be that the HRE forces France to accept Orleans moving to the HRE. Or France and the HRE could end up at war, with the HRE seizing the titles in Brabant and France defending their vassal's right to those titles.
Mostly though, I just want to stop losing territory in spite of my high crown authority supposedly "protecting" me from that. Endless "seize all de jure" wars with my cousin aren't fun.
