hello every one i am new to this forum. i am playing Europa Universalis 4 and i am so sad to see that i can't recruit different type of units in a single army so sad i know its hard to add the possiblity of being able to have different units in a single army i was just hoping to see if it could be possible to add this in a dlc or update (like crusader kings 3 where you can have different units in a single army and its one of the best video games of all time ) it will be very interesting thing to see different units in a single army. i am playing grand strategy of paradox recently ( in past few months ) and i am excited to play more . and thanks a lot for this many great games

Welcome, there is different type of units already.

Granted all your infantry/cav will be the same "unit type" at the same time, when you tech up ans unlock new types of infantry/cav and you switch to the new type, all your unit will switch to it. You cant have half and half, like half longbow and half man at arms.

But, these unit types are unique to your culture group so on the same tech level, an indian nation will have different unit than a polynesian one, or an estern europe one. Some culture are better early game (nomad, anatholian) and some are better end game (western).

Some nation also have access to special units, heres a list, not sure if i have them all:
  • Janisseries for Ottoman
  • Cawa for ethiopia
  • Marines for a few strong naval nation or with idea
  • Streltsy for Russia
  • Banners for manchu culture
  • There's a bunch of unique estate units too... cosack, rajput...
  • There's a special unit if you go revolutionnary in the end game
In the end, EU4 warfare is more about global modifiers than actual unit types or tactics. Its way more simpler than say I:R warfare (i didnt play CK).

You can get units of different types by recruiting them in your subjects’ land through the province interface… but as soon as you change unit types, they will all update. And you can only do this for subjects with a different tech group. Other than getting Anatolian infantry or Nomad cavalry really early (or western infantry/cavalry late game), it doesn’t make that much of a difference and almost certainly is not with the extra recruitment time, necessitated re-recruiting every 60 years or so, and micromanagement of not using the macrobuilder. Oh yeah, and you can’t consolidate regiments of different types.
So you can do it, but I would really not recommend it.
