Just an HTTT thing. Qing is listed as a dynasty name for that culture group, so there's a chance of getting an emperor of that family when the dynasty changes.

Thatexplains..:D Also, the flag does show the chinese character for Qin, Qin dynasty, accordin to wiki ()

It's not a new game though, it's an expansion which requires the original game. I suppose the logic is you may have 0, 1, 2 or 3 expansions, but to be playing anything you must have EUIII, hence why it's the one they check for.
Another reason would be expansions tend to be cheaper than full games, so if you were someone who'd pirated the game but then wanted access to the betas, if it were allowed the cheapest method would be to just buy and register an expansion. I'm aware that's not the case with EUIII and HttT due to how old EUIII is, but I would imagine when you are running a forum with dozens of different games you'd want to set up some basic rules for registration, not go through each one on a case by case basis.

If I were a pirate, why would pirate all the previous games and all of a sudden buy the new one? Wouldn't I just pirate the latest one? And then download the beta patches from "unofficial sources"? (They are all available "unofficially" BTW.)

Eghh, its not big deal. I'll register as soon as I can find that box. Having moved several times since I bought it doesn't help though.

I would imagine there's at least a slight delay between a patch going up and an "unofficial" copy being hosted. So you might be willing to buy a single expansion to "legitimise" yourself, which would also let you post in the subforums etc. Anyway, I just wanted to point out the registration requirements dodn't seem as odd to me as they do to some in this thread.

What is THIS? Is this a patch?
It's the friendly notice that a new beta patch has been released and can be downloaded in the tech support forum.

That is the thing. As I stated earler I PAID for both games (EU3 and HTTT) at the sametime right after HTTT came out. I do NOT have a pirate copy of EU3. I just forgot I already had a screen name for the forum and made up another one and registered the game there. I sent admin an email with my gamers gate name and password to verify things. I am not trying to get away with anything other than having fun with a game I paid for. I hope they are able to straighten things out. If I was trying to pirate anything I would not be posting 5 to 6 times in this thread and sending all my information in. I should not have two forum names. That was a mistake on my part. Admin can look both of these up and see that I rarely post and that I only registered my games to be able to get good stuff like beta patches.

Is this new beta compatible with 4.1b saves?
Paradox can never guarantee save compatibility across versions. In this case it ought to be OK, but it's untested.

If you don't find it, email support@paradoxplaza.com with proof of purchase and they should be able to give you a code.

You cannot extract the rar file in the game folder ?

There is no normal game folder (e.g Program files/paradox)

You have to look for programfiles/steam/steamapps and the files are in there, where you extract the beta. IIRC.

Your unenviable plight has no relation to the development of the public beta.

Paradox can never guarantee save compatibility across versions. In this case it ought to be OK, but it's untested.

I'm playing a few games at once, and my old saves continue to work with no problems. Changes like modified diploannexation are visible, etc. Doubtlessly a few small things have gone catastrophically awry in the periphery, but I haven't noticed them.

After installing the beta patch I've noticed a problem with "settlement policy" decision- 60 years passed- and I did have colonists and magistrates to spare- and the province still did not flip to my culture. I think this probably got messed up when paradox made it so the ai doesn't use the settlement policy in stupid ways anymore, though I think that should only apply to things like russia using settlement on tartars and austria using it on bavarians. But I miss the italians settling the greek lands and the georgians grabbing an altaic province and making it georgian.

too long? The gist is settlement policy doesn't work and the ai now never uses it, even when it would be appropriate.
