dude, i'm willing to check
but we need to wait for hoi 2.. so it'll take a while.
I'm not so sure that you are right about the size of armies here back on 48..
there were 600,000 israelis here
and if a division (according to hoi1) is 10,000
i believe we had a couple of these. but i'm not 100% sure.
We also got a couple of armored units after some time (i actually mean by single numbers, there were 5 or 6 or 7 cars or so) and about 3 planes, or 1. I don't remember...
Didn't the Us send reinforcements in form of commanders to israel then?
i remeber that movie with the guy that played spartacus when he was a general in the independence war in israel.
btw, who's collins? and did begin command a war?! I remember he was just our prime minister (which signed the peace treaty with egyps at the 70s), not a general or something.. altough he was the had of the Etzel or Lehi if I remember correct.
the problem with the independence war is that there wasn't an acutal united army. all of the 'underground' armies like the Palmach and the Ha'gana and Eztel and such primarily fought together, but i don't think they had a single leader. perhaps some leaders worked to gether
i think that after the war ben-gurion was selected to be the head of the government and this is when he decided to unite all of the above into one organized army.
just for you to know, i'm not 100% that what iv'e said here is absoloutly correct. I'm going to study in school about that time next year, so all i've written here is from my general knowledge which is not that precise. sorry for da inconvience guys
