This is a bit vague, I admit, but since I've heard Paradox fans are big history fans, hopefully someone will have heard of what I'm recalling, or be able to set me straight.

Ages back I was doing some reading about Britain, and one of the topics which briefly came up was some sort of... historical "kingdom" of Ireland and Scotland. From what I recall, I don't think it was a literal Kingdom, but more a "this is the name of that region composed of the island of Ireland, and the northern part of Britain".

I've been looking, but cannot find any reference to what I'm thinking of. The closest I've seen is "Goidelic", but that's about the language itself, rather than some way of referring to the area... So, am I just totally mis-remembering/misreading something I once read, or is there actually some old name for that region.

Any info/thoughts would be appreciated...

Are you thinking of the kingdom of Dalriada, which spanned both sides of the Irish Channel?

As per Sir Arthur Conan Doyle these are the Celtic regions of the British Isles representing the original character of the islanders before the invasion of the Angles and the Saxons, who only changed the character of the English. At times this was the description used for
Brittany in France as well.

Even a Gaelic or broadly Celtic definition would be problematic because the Scottish lowlands are culturally Anglo-Saxon.

There was a short-lived effort by Robert the Bruce to kick the English out of Ireland and become High King, which has interesting alt history potential. But in this case we're talking about the union of two crowns and not any kind of unification.

Ah, that might well be it! It certainly looks "foreign" enough as a name to match what I recall (that it was something "unusual" to me, and 'Dal Riata' matches that...). If so, I'm certainly mis-remembering, haha... I had the notion of an actual 'big' area... :shrug:

Thank-you everyone for your help!

@icedt729,
Hmm, I might have to look into that. Sounds interesting! :D

I don't know where I heard it, but I am sure I saw a BBC documentary referring to the lands as Terragingiberi (I think it was of Roman origin?).
