With around 600 hours in this game, I have very rarely received nations via personal unions. After finally reading the guide to personal unions (that really should be stickied. How had I never seen it before?), I started trying to focus on that a little bit more. Anyways, as Norway, I got a personal union with Pomerania even though I had never been an ally nor had a royal marriage with them. I proceeded to feed them with Baltic provinces and those in that area. Finally, when able, I decided to integrate them. They were at 90% when I had just finished a war and some rebels had broken out.

I had plenty of funds and was gradually taking them out as my manpower was recovering. Then all of a sudden it happened. They installed a new king and my personal union was dissolved. I had no idea what happened and I was playing ironman. Fortunately, my game saves four times per year, so I actually was fortunate and had enough time from the previous backup file to where I had a enough time to get a nearby army to their capital and get two siege phases. It started at -7 for the first phase, then got an extra 7% for the second phase due to reinforcing artillery. After about 10 tries, I finally managed to get the fort back just in time (was the first time I was finally able to roll a two siege pip general.. immediately saved after that).

Now, I am not one to cheat with ironman usually. That is why I play it. To prevent myself from cheating. However, this case enraged me. I had invested hundreds of DIP points and lost them all with no warning. There are about a million warning banners at the top. Including when rebels are about to break your own country. Why can't there be a warning in regards to when rebels are about to break your personal union? I rid rebels in my junior partners/vassals as quick as I can. But if peasants enforce their demands and lower taxes, I don't really care too much. But this was a major hit with absolutely no advance warning. Well, it's a mistake I won't make again.

Yeah, there is a warning when rebels in your own provinces are close to enforcing demands, but no such luck when rebels in your subjects are. As such I tend to go after my subjects' rebels first, which is kind of counter-intuitive... You can see the progress in the stability menu, but it is very cluttered with the average person's whiny spread too thin nation :p

Half the game is learning through errors. There's no information anywhere. I'm not saying there shouldn't be, but you better get used to it.

Especially once you stop playing casually and delve deeper into some finer mechanics. You'll soon find out that your games end up being half "I've never seen this before" and half "I'll write another bug report".

A lot of those bug reports are not even acknowledged, regardless of being objective and easily reproduced bugs :(.

OP's situation is particularly nasty and quite justified in save-scumming it. I have no tolerance for "iron man" with that sort of assymetric information presentation and hidden rules. If the game can't respect its own presentation, why should I?

Nobles often (if not always) install a noble republic. I guess a PU ruler isn't eligible, so its always PU break in that case.

Aren't the overview in the Stability and Overextension tab and the banner at the top enough? I can understand it being frustrating if you miss it, but the information is there and I don't find the stability tab to be all that confusing.

Gonna have to agree with Kagemin on this one, I personally don't need any more big flashy warning signs is the answer for this, I have enough to keep up with already.

You can customize your overlay so that none of them come up. It's your choice to keep them. I think it's better to have more for this reason. Some people like having all the warnings on and not having the option is worse than being able to disable it.

I fed Aragon a load of provinces in Africa and then found I couldn't 'form Spain diplomatically' because there was a province limit for this specific option. There is a hover-over tip, but it was a real boo to find out!
I once thought about abusing this, but also thought "It can't be that easy" and found this specific information, because i was sure there would be a mechanic to prevent the decision abuse. Cmon, did you really think such a cheesy thing could work? :p Same for Lithuania for example, guess also Scotland, but haven't checked.

Well, ok. Maybe it was once possible. There are many outdated tips out there. You should always check when the tip was given and if it has changed over patches.

every formable nation that instant inherits a country has a province limit on the inherit-ee.

Scotland inherits England - 28 cities
England inherits Scotland - 11 cities

Poland inherits Lithuania - 47 cities
Lithuania inherits Poland - 23 cities

Castille inherits Aragon - 32

As a sidenote, you can see that the number was well thought out. For instance, the number for Lithuania is their starting provinces + Livonian Order. You can find similar patterns.

That "cheesy thing" actually did work for many of the earlier patches, I don't think it was changed until ~El Dorado times lol.

Yes, you used to be able to split the world between you and Aragon and then instantly one tag, the good old days as I call them. You also used to be able to do some weird crap to yourself as Spain to restore the Roman Empire and get cores on all of Anatolia and Greece, also, in the good old days. Getting the Inheritance, Marriage and flipping to Roman Empire (not the present version of that event), and boom power was fun and twisted.

As to the rebels, I find that the notice we get is enough if you aren't too distracted. You can do yourself a favour and build cathedrals and such in your subjects lands.
