A little thing I hope is corrected about Durham in CKIII

The CoA used for Durham in CKII is that of the city alone, and I'm not sure how old it is. Quite a few flags for local authorities were only just invented in the 70s, like Cumberland's.

This CoA has definitely been around for centuries though, being the CoA of the Prince-Bishops - I've seen it myself on crests on the old buildings in the cathedral square - and a slight variant is used by the county council even today: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1f/Angl-Ebor-Durham-Arms.svg

Plus, the CoA I linked is just a better fit for the county as a whole, rather than just the city.

it'd be a good thing to sort out prior to release, so whenever we see anachronistic COAs we should point them out!

I hope this time around too there can be some sort of dynamism to COAs so that there aren't post-Norman COAs during the Anglo-Saxon periods, that always bothered me a little but there was no perfect solution to it.

Part of the problem is that coats-of-arms really weren't a thing everywhere in Europe until the later Middle Ages, so there's not much they can do when the only documented COAs we have are the post-Norman ones.

Well, I guess they could do what the medieval chroniclers did and just make them up, but that's not really ideal either. :p

that's true, I've just found it odd seeing Norman lions everywhere when you've defeated William the Conqueror. Why are we using an enemy and false king's symbols everywhere???
The "made up" options can be nice, like the white dragon COA for K_England, but I concede that it's not authentic and the options are lacking. I wish there were a perfect solution really

The Kingdoms of Wessex and later Saxon England are known to have used dragons/wyverns on their banners even if formal CoAs weren't a thing then, so it's not exactly made up. Even Harold Godwinson is portrayed either under a dragon banner, or with an actual dragon hovering over him in the Bayeux Tapestry. Relative to literally anything else I wouldn't call it an inauthentic choice.

I'd just like to see far more options for CoA's, alongside the ability to alter/make new ones without DLC.

To say that the system we have in CK2 is lacking is an understatement...

it'd be a good thing to sort out prior to release, so whenever we see anachronistic COAs we should point them out!
(...)

Define anachronistic in this case. The game covers a long period, and only just before half of the period covered by CK III, did COA's actually develop. I'm not so bothered by COA's, which developed during the whole period covered by the game, it's IMHO better than total fantasy ones; unless they were attributed arms from the period covered by the game ;).

OTOH for places like England one could have two sets in certain places, one pre-Norman conquest and one post-Norman conquest. Since being stuck with Anglo-Saxon COA's post-Norman conquest would be just as bad.
