A King, An Empire, and a Pope

Well I have a game going and well my ruler is at the end of his life. He has led a great life. He started out as the mere king of Bohemia and went on to conqure all of Hungary, Italy, Naples, Croatia and the jewel in the crown the Byzantine Empire.

I had two sons and two daughters. My daughters both died young and childless. The first son past away in my final war. And the second son I made thhe Archbishop of Naples. The pope died and behold he became the pope.

And now I am very old with no vassels. (I got tired of having to deal with them revolting every couple of turns.) So as you can guess, my teritory is vast.

All of my family is dead, My fathers as well as my own brothers and sisters revolted and had to be dealt with. So there are no other heirs.

I only have one child/heir left and he is the Pope. He had a daughter first though before he became the pope.

The problem is well, I have died three times now and every time the game crashes.

Is there a rule saying I can not become the pope? If so, how do I fix that so I can continue the game?

You don´t tell if you are using pure CK or CK-DV - if the latter are you already using the latest beta patch?

That... is pretty hardcore. CK was launched back when Paradox had a terrible track record of launch quality. Up to Sengoku, I believe, they were known for their great (albeit very buggy) launches, turning into awesome games after expansions and patches. That has been since corrected. But that fact does not help you.

I VERY HEAVILY recommend installing the Deus Vult expansion, and installing the latest beta patch (it's on a sticky post) to avoid 99% of the bugs you might face with vanilla CK.

Ah... That explains all of the problems I have been having. Now I remember why I stopped playing this back when I first got this game.
But that still doesn't answer my question, can your Heir become the pope and then inherit your crown, thus making you pope?

No, you cannot play the Pope. I do believe that situation is pretty much impossible to happen in DV.

There is a bishophrics patch in the mod forum, you find it in the muslim and pagan patch thread.
Dont know if by accident you can play the pope with that.
But the inheritance laws for bishophrics dont work with it and it seems buggy.
BTW, i played the very vanilla version as well and quit, because it was unplayable and just returned last year.

So, get DV and the last patch, but you have to take the one in the last post.
There are several, but not identic 2.1b patches, so beware.

The game is a completely different animal. My old strategy no longer works. (kill all vassels and keep the land for my self) The soldiers just melted away, untill with 24 provences, I had a total of 240 men.

Now I have to play nice with others, can't go charging in and do it all by myself.

Ok so my new question is, Why can I not mary my courtiers anymore?

You can only marry family members now.

To clarify that in a less incestuous way, you can only arrange marriages for family members in your court now.
