As stated in the topic. maybe one of the late game events is ware the fallen empires ware at war with one another at one point and it is heating back up.

Wouldn't have more sense, if we are one of the two?
By late game, we should be puppeteer of empires and federations... doesn't this make us the Vorlons/Shadow? And one hairless ape could deliver a terrible speech to force us to leave... and we could crush that insolent worm...

I think the devs did hint somewhere that one of the galactic crises would be that 2 fallen empires awaken and start fighting each other, while the normal empires just get caught in the crossfire.

I do like the idea that we where a FE that was sent back to the stone age and forgotten about by everyone and maybe we are on a quest for revenge.

Wiz has made a few comments about Fallen Empires awakening and fighting each other.

From an interview with PC Games Network:
Paradox are also considering something involving the game’s fallen empires, the classic trope of the decayed super-species that once ruled the stars but now only have a handful of worlds. Either one of these races will decide to kick themselves back into gear and come charging out of their peaceful regions in technologically superior ships - or two will, going to war with one-another over ancient feuds, with you and any other cowering mortal races rather stuck in the crossfire. - Source

From Twitter:
Q: Can you wake them in Stellaris?

A: At the moment, no. I'm 99% sure it'll be added as a potential galactic 'disaster' sooner or later though.
- source

It sounds like Paradox already has plans for Fallen Empires awakening, and fighting against one another.

It's possible it will make it in for release, but I'd imagine we'll have to wait till after.

Is there a limit to the amount of fallen empires on a particular match? I know map size might come into play.

There's 4 types of fallen empires at release it seems, so one imagines that no sane player is going to tell the game to create more than 4 of them,
Presumably, this would result in 1 of each type.

There is a lot of great stuff you can do with a Fallen vs Fallen war. The combat could be so great that if a fleet engagement occurs within one of your systems collateral damage could result. One of the Fallen Empires could try to conscript you onto their side, forcing you to either join them, and in so doing risk attacks on your planet by the other Empire, or refuse, and have to fight a Fallen Empire anyways, hoping that they will be too busy fighting their main opponent to worry about bombing you back into the stone age.
