yes, you always get the AE costs, and furthermore vassal reconquest does not give AE discount as far as I can tell. However, since people can't join coalition when they are in truce with you, that is not a problem once you are strong enough.

As far as DIP costs:
-Vassal reconquest CB make ceding vassal cores free (but not other provinces)
-Your (not vassal) conquest CB makes all claimed province transfers free (whether you take them yourself or give to vassals)

I haven't used other CBs, but I imagine your deus vult would allow you to transfer all occupations for free. However, if your goal is to finish as quickly as possible, then there are better idea groups (in my opinion). Later on you can pick up imperialism which is also free dip on all provinces.

In my current run i have found that as long as i have reconquest as the cb i can transfer sieges to vassals and cede provinces with no rip cost regardless. For example in dealing with ottoman i used kamarans cores the get the reconquest but then gave wll the provinces to saruman because they were converting for me.
Also on that note i now believe revoking the last reform is not worth it simply because if you use vassal claims you can save a lot of monarch points.

I would put this forward as a 'good run guide':

Dont rush burgandy, the risk of going after burgandy first is that it takes a few years and can be bad for manpower. Jump on bavaria, dont gives hre princes provinces higher than BT 6/7. Giving provinces to vassals eg silesia seems to mitigate a lot of the AE and fewer coalitions form. If a coalition forms unally and jump on the target for free provinces to revoke. Dont bother with marriages, they lock you into an alliance and alliances should be fluid.

Post vassal swarm declare on burgandy till u inherit it. Go to war with england first. This is important because they are allied with portugal most games which allows you to colony snipe.

If hungary was friendly to you at the start royal marriage them for a union (just watch when their ruler dies and claim throne. Dont put it on speed 5 and wait between truces. Either alternate conquests or declare war on allies. Be cycling through castile and portuguese allies i was able to burn wll but 2 colonies, the new world is entirely mine because i locked down spain nd portugal super early

Use byzantium to conquer the balkans, take provinces and release then declare for cores, do the same with finland and novgrod (assuming muscovy comes out on top in russia. Using the reconquest cb with novgrod is great because provinces dont cost dip points for some reason. Also revolt risk is tiny due to the culture and religion being right. England can be annoying but if you get a foothold they become quite easy

Based on my playthrough, I agree on these points. I haven't played on after that though.

To prevent Westernization in the Americas, it's enough to kill the colonizers before they colonize a single American province, since you can then protectorate all the natives and they won't border any Western country. But for Asia and Africa, I guess you can feed Oirat colonies to block the North, and use trade companies in Persia/India as well as Africa to block the rest?

Got it revoked in 1463 and PU with Hungary. Now I start trying for WC. Realize I will never have enough diplo points even feeding my vassels to annex every province before the end of time unless I use some more cheap tricks. Jesus I am really hating this game now that it forces you to use so much cheese to WC. It's jsut not fun to play anymore. paradox you need to make other things to do besides war and make diplomacy and territory more dynamic.

Huh? This HRE thing and the protectorate thing are the only cheese, and they're not even that hard to execute...judging by the 1654 WC, WC has never been easier.

Protectorate the guys you will never get border with then early on. You protectorate the rest only when you are ready to win. If you are lucky you protectorate might even expand buy the time.

Using Oirat (or any other horde that has not taken the ideas they need to reform their governments yet) to block off westernisation is definitely a good idea. That is what I did, and I got my WC last night:

By blocking like this it was impossible for any of Asia to ever westernise. Just protectorate it all and you are done :)

Tried this today. Something I learned was, DO NOT attack Burgundy (or Venice). You can't force HRE members to return unlawful territory in any of Burgundy's territories. Also, if an HRE member (e.g. Genoa) gets attacked, you can declare war on them or their ally while the call to arms screen is still up, then accept their call to arms and it won't do anything because you're already in a war against them.

I have annexed, landlocked, or vassalized all the European colonizers (except for Norway, but that should be done soon). Should I try to annex all my vassals that will colonize, since they may cause countries in the Americas/Africa/Asia to westernize?

Yes. Furthermore, an amusing England WC I saw in the AAR forum back in 1.4 was done by simply not teching up at all past a certain point. I'm not sure how that'd work now that vassal swarms don't travel as far, but with numbers you'd still probably be able to crush most anything.

I haven't played any expnsions yet. How do I transfer occupation? I occupy Memmingen, owned by Bavaria, and want to transfer occupation to one of my allies to make them eat the AE.

Also, what is a protectorate? And when is it an interesting strategy?

As Austria, do I just wait until countries conquer land inside the HRE to take it back/release... Or do I claim/conquer provinces myself? I aim to revoke the privilegia and eventually unify the HRE asap.

We play EU4+CoP+WoN+RR in a 3player MPgame.
Do you recommend playing with AoW, or is it unstable?

Is it possible at all to convert to protestant or reformed after revoking the privilegia? I ask since normally being the emperor and converting tends to kick you from the throne. Since league wars never trigger it seems i might be stuck as catholic.
