9 Just went live and the last episode is due at midnight CET.
I was quite happy with the playthrough even though it wasn't in 13 years but rather 20. It's still ok I think.
Let's see when the next hotfix is out ;-)

Got it done in 1474 on the first try. 1456 is damn impressive! Got involved in several annoying punitive wars against my allies. Lol

I didn't finish until 1500... BUT I did get the full Burgundy inheritance, France is in a PU with me, and Scotland and Naples are my vassals. Am I on track for a WC?
As long as you didn't revoke the last reform so you have the vassal swarm, you should be good. The world is at your feet :)

yup I tried something similar but didn't push really aggressively for conquest. This is where I am in 1679.

LOL, I did not get an heir although I got 5 Royal Marriages...
Now I got a 0/6/6 Noble from House Lancaster "Archduke Ladislav I Lancaster" on the Throne

Does that have bad Implications that I lost House Habsburg?

EDIT: OK, I got a Habsburg event but that one will make me loose an additional 50 Legitimacy then I will be at -60 from -10...
This is really tough, paused the game to think about what I shall do :)

^I'd take that heir... 12pt monarch w/ strong claim will far outperform the temporary hit you take on legitimacy.
Yes that was the right choice...

because somehow my legitimacy jumped from -12 to 0...
thats not -50 :)
awesome
but its not 5/3/4 it is Maria Theresa with 5/5/3 ... hopefully I get the event that it allows for a female emperor else I am in deep trouble
EDIT: Got the female Emperor event man I am lucky :)

I just can't get this strategy to work. My allies happily either start wars before I even got to start the chain, or get involved in their own little wars during the wars and peace out, leaving nobody for me to give the provinces to.

klingonadmiral, here are some opening moves that might help you (distilled from the wisdom of the OP's epic tactics):

Maine is your initial target. They are very likely to ally either Bavaria or Wurttemburg (?). Start fab claim on Bavaria and ally w/ big land-locked HRE members: saxony, bb, bohemia and switz all worked well for me. Pal is ok. Poland is good too.

Warn bb not to go to war. Once they ally up, they often try to take Neumark from Teutonic.

If Maine doesn't ally bavaria, restart. Its not worth the random hassle otherwise.

If there are any other OPM's in the alliance chain, try to get their opinions of you above 50 with gifts and diplo. Once war breaks out, you can peace out Maine and grant them an electorate. I've noticed they won't accept the electorate if they have neutral opinion states with negative modifiers.

When finally peacing out bavaria and other non-OPM's, make sure you transfer occupation of their provinces to non-adjacent HRE allies. If you're going to peace nations out along the way, make sure you don't transfer any of the warleader's provinces to your allies in a drawn out war (until the very end), since they are likely to make peace and drop out of the war, leaving you having to reseige and with one less ally to give out land to.

When giving out mainz' electorate after annexing them, make sure its to a OPM you can drag into a war by declaring on one of their allies. I'm usually looking to alsace, augsburg, etc.

Early on you'll be unable to get certain provinces back due to tax value outweighing your dip rep. This issue will sort itself out later so just note them and check back when you have max opinion and better dip rep.

Hope this makes sense/helps you.

klingonadmiral [...]

I went for Saxony first, giving it to Brandenburg, giving electorate to Magdeburg, then giving Magdeburg to Bohemia. Allies were Bohemia, Brandneburg, Switzerland and Poland. In the first try, Poland very early DoW'ed TO, and as I didn't want to cancel the alliance, I somehow managed to burn all my MP while sieging down Hungary (with no battles, and the Army was split, no idea how that happened). In the second try, Poland didn't join my war because they liked Bavaria too much, and Brandenburg got in a war with the Hansa, relatively soon signing a seperate White Peace with Bavaria. Stupid AI.

Yeah the MP issue is worth addressing... usually i make 12 mercs before the first war, and use them to attack stacks early on, using my own stacks to start seiges. Once the big enemy stacks are down, I move the mercs over to the seiges and my own troops back to home provinces. Once the enemy is fully carpeted and 0 troops, I drop my maintenance slider down to save gold. This should keep you over 20k mp for most of your IA wars.
Also more importantly perhaps... during these years, most provinces have a 14-15 troop limit. When moving my troops around over the first decade or so, I'm careful to split into stacks of 9. When engaging enemy stacks, if your mercs can absorb initial contact, your mp stacks can play mop up with minimal losses.

The thing is, my troops didn't fight a single real battle, only seeing combat when crushing either newly recruited regiments or routing armies retreating from the battles taking place north. By just sieging a few Hungarian provinces, I went from like 35k or whatever Austria start with to 382 or so, and the war wasn't even long. I don't even know. Also, I absolutely despise mercs. I HATE not being in absolute control of my army composition, it's the single reason why I absolutely despise CK2.

How do mercs remove control of your army composition?

How do mercs remove control of your army composition?

At least, as a western nation, I have the choice between multiple different unit types each time a new unit level is unlocked. Mercs a) use unit types all over the place (makes sense, because they probably come from all over the place) and b) might even use outdated units. And I want the game to respect my choice to have unit type 1, and not unit type 2, in my armies. I don't want that stupid Condotta Infantry, I chose the Landsknechts.

So instead of hiring all possible mercs you hire only those you want to. This means you have less of them but doesn't mean you can't use them at all.
