I'am new to this game( just bought the other day) and it just maytbe one of the best strategy gane I ever played. But there are some thing missing. Small things. The first thing is the lack of specialist units, the people on the Balearic Islands were known for from their skill as slingers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baleares. a other unit is The German Guard, Julius Caesar and Augustus had a personal bodygaurd of cavalrymen from the germanic tribe of Batavi. Or the Praetorian Guard, In the book Nero's Killing Machine by Stephen Dando-Collins, he states that Mark Antony recruited former legionaries for a new Praetorian Guard in 44 BC, And speaking of Mark Antony, is'nt he missing from one or two scenarios...or is it just me.. But it is still a damn good game.

I tried to play Antony's side in the last scenario, the war with Octavian. But almost as soon as I started Antony died, which kinda took the fun out of it. :(

Well, the game should have had at least one extra unit type (quadriremes and maybe some sort of true heavy cavalry instead of using the cataphracts NI), but more would not be necessary and especially not divisions into velites, archers, slingers etc, that would be more a Total War approach. This game is about Grand Strategy.

i'm still unable to find Marcus Athonius in the caesar's Gallic War scenario, but it is a small thing, perhaps i just going blind  . Maybe i'm wrong but was'nt he Caesar's 2ic though the gallic wars ??

And it IS a Great grand strategy game, the best so far.

well, apparently that depends on the source. And my source says that Mark Antony created the PG in 44 BC. And perhaps the definition of when a unit can be called praetorian guard or what a praetorian guard unit is

Actually praetorian guards existed long before Octavian. They were instituted as generals' bodyguards (from the term praetorium which refers to a general's tent), and first mentioned in the early third century BCE. Octavian vastly expanded their role, and their size expanded accordingly.

A little off-topic: when replying to long messages with game scripts or coding please don't quote the whole darn thing - you are causing me to wear off highly valuable skin cells from my mouse-wheel spinning index finger!

Praetorians

Greco-Pruss Guy said:
True in a sort of way, the Praetorians didn't come on to the battlefield until approx. 27BC

And then the Praetorians rarely came onto any battlefield !

The Praetorian Guard existed to guard the Emperor and rarely left Rome. They didn't go on campaign and only fought in and around Rome. If / when the Emperor left Rome he would take along the German Guard Cavalry and leave to Praetorians to ensure stability and loyalty back in Rome.

Praetorians = overpaid thugs in gaudy uniforms.
