Ok, long story short, I've got 143 hours into CK2 (not much compared to many I'm sure), but I"m sick to death of attrition. It's crippling the AI. I've tried out a few mods, but none of them seem to do much about it.

So I'd either like to find a mod that fixes it so it grows over time, or is much less important, or makes the AI smart enough to deal with it. Optimally it'd be a mod that also changes the way levies regenerate (to make being defeated in battle actually matter during a war).

Otherwise, I'd to just remove attrition from the game completely. It's not that I can't deal with it, I can. . . it's that it's just frustrating to beat the AI just because he marched his 20,000 men across five counties and only had 8,000 when he got there.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

DIFFERENT_RELIGIONGROUP_SUPPLY_PENALTY = -0.5, -- Only 50% supply in provinces with different religios group
MONTHS_UNTIL_REBEL_WIN = 12, -- Number of days until province is totally conquered by rebels
OWN_SETTLEMENT_SUPPLY_BONUS = 0.5, -- Extra supply from being in home realm
NEUTRAL_SETTLEMENT_SUPPLY_BONUS = 0.25, -- Neutral supply bonus
CONTROL_SETTLEMENT_SUPPLY_BONUS = 0.25, -- Supply bonus from occupied settlements
ENEMY_SETTLEMENT_SUPPLY_BONUS = -0.1, -- Supply bonus from enemy settlements(woot!)
NEARBY_SETTLEMENT_SINGLE_SUPPLY_BONUS = 0.25, -- Bonus for nearby settlement, if not controlling one yourself
MAX_ATTRITION_LEADER_REDUCTION = -0.1, -- Center leader reduces max attrition(reduction in actual percent)
COASTAL_SUPPLY_BONUS = 0.5, -- Supply bonus in coastal provinces

So I read the FAQ on modding, and it seemed really easy. . . so maybe I'll give it ago. These are the only items I could find relating to supply and attrition in the lua thingy file.

It seems like making it so good leaders limit attrition more would be sensible, but the AI uses a lot of bad leaders. I'd also like to make it so if you're just across the border, there'd be no attrition. It would encourage border fights. . . but I don't know if the AI will understand this. It doesn't seem to understand attrition right now anyway.

Is there anywhere I can limit the damage caused by attrition directly? If it was only like 1% a week or something it'd be a lot more reasonable, and wouldn't hurt the AI so badly. At the very least I think I'll up the bonus from having a nearby settlement and eliminate the negatives from having it be enemy territory.

I wish there was a way to have armies eat up the supply in an area (as they loot and pillage) and then have it slowly recover afterwards. It'd be nice to have an in game result of a region being worked over repeatedly for a few years, like in the 30 years war.

edit:

I just found the

province_base_values = {
supply_limit = 5 # 5K troops
}

in the static_modifiers.txt. So that loks like the most basic one, and an easy place to eliminate supply. I'm think I'll eliminate it and see how the AI handles it.

Please report what you find out, I'm interested in this as well. The AI normally handles attrition poorly, but CK2 (unfortunately) is one of the poorer games in dealing with attrition. I'm not a fan of the way that supply and attrition grows (or doesn't, sometimes) over the centuries. EU3 was a bit more fun in this manner, attrition seemed to grow at a more manageable pace and the AI wasn't too terribly dumb with it.

There are also attrition numbers in map/terrain.txt; are these what you are looking for?

Code:
marsh = {
	movement_cost = 2.2
	defence = 3
	[B]max_attrition = 0.05[/B]
	color = { 76 112 105 }
	[B]supply_limit = 2[/B]}
