Hi,
first game through so i made a mistake somewhere and became a foreigner in my own lands.... I probably had my son educated by a foreigner and he took the culture, i'll try to correct that with my heir. Is there another way to change culture? Does my wife can change the culture of my children? Is there a way for me (adult) to change back to my traditional culture?

I don't think there is a way unless you are under a liege of a different culture. Best to just fix the problem in later generations. Send your children to gregarious tutors of the culture that you want them to have.

The current culture changing of characters is kinda ridiculous IMO. I can understand changing culture to another of same culture group (like Bulgarian to Serbian and vice-versa) but stuff like Irish to Persian in the Irish court? That should be made impossible (unless the court is of different culture and/or parent is of different culture).

Anyway, I don't think adults can change culture. Just give your kids to be educated by characters of the proper culture and accept the challenge of being a foreign King for now. You don't always get to have that kind of fun

Really? Never saw my (adult) vassals change their culture to my own... or was that added in a later patch?

It's a decision that you can take as a vassal but that the AI will rarely take. Playing as the Basque Count of Viscaya as a Catholic under a Cathar King of Castille, I noticed that I had both convert to liege's culture and convert to liege's religion available to me with piety and prestige penalties tied to it. There's another event that changes you to the culture of the people you rule on top of that too - that's the one the AI will use.

Well i'm king of Ireland and Wales, slowing carving pieces of Scotland so i don't have a liege. Guess i'm stuck with being hungarian for now. Except by the cultural flexibility technology, is there a way to reduce the penalty? I do have a very high diplomacy (my tutor had high diplomacy and the genius trait, i got them both.... with her culture) so i think i can manage most of my vassal.... maybe i'll have to be a bit more radical with that stupid uncle who thinks he should be king....

It's been there as long as I can recall at least.

It's a decision that you can take as a vassal but that the AI will rarely take.

It's a decision for the player, for the AI there's an event, though I don't remember which it is.

No other way to reduce it, no. You'll just have to wait for the next generation, or hope your provinces flip to Hungarian

If your capitol is an Irish county, it's possible you will get an event asking you to convert your culture to that of the people.

Id say the sure way to fix culture swaps is to make it religion-locked, meaning as a catholic, a character cannot change culture to something thats muslim-aligned, dito for orthodox. This makes sense and would avoid alot of crazies, like the heir to a catholic king in iberia neck deep into the reconquista deciding to turn andalusian and sheik, or the king of the crusader kingdom of jerusalem becoming the crusader sultan...

But yeah, having built an empire on inviting foreign nobles of good traits into my court to serve as landowners, I can safely say they sometimes switch cultures, but its not that big of a percentage.

There is an event that can occur if you rule over lands of a different culture that lets you convert to that culture. It's why you often see Levantine rulers of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. I've had it pop up for me several times during my playthrough as the Latin Empire.

This. I have accidentally converted my heir with a guardian of wrong culture on my first game. Took a while for the conversion event to pop up but it did eventually. Note that your primary title can't be a recently conquered one.

Alternatively you can either edit it out in the save file or console cheat event 55010

I found playing as a Levantine Kingdom of Jerusalem significantly more stable. Tbh I'd like to see a melting pot culture pop up in Jerusalem if it survives which makes the king and levantine subjects into a more westernised culture (maybe Latin culture group) with a unique name and western titles, instead of Sultan, Emir, ect.

well, one problem with that idea, what if Jerusalem is ruled by a king in the germanic culture group? Or slavic? Would make as little sense for the melting pot to turn into the latin culture group, as keeping it as is.

Looking at the cultural changes during the actual period, it'd be a confluence of Latin, Greek and Arab. The problem is that the culture setup uses cascading categories rather than the much more useful venn diagram method. :\
