Just finished watching the stream where they showcased the console version of Stellaris. Since they are trying to mostly stay true to the PC version, I noticed a few things that might be a little tedious to do on a controller.

Expanding your empire:

It seems that the way you expand and build up your empire is similar to the PC. In the console you have to click over to outliner, you click down to get to construction ship, you click over back to map, you click on system, you click down to build an outpost.

When that is done, you go through all that selecting your construction ship, click on system and build the energy/mineral upgrades. When that is done you do that all over again and build research upgrades.

Now there might be slightly faster ways to do it by zooming into a system, individually selecting a construction ship and going from there. However, the point is it's a lot of button presses for what is essentially a mundane task that you will have to repeat over and over again.

Solution:

I think it would really help console players if this process was greatly streamlined. What if all it took was you selecting an unclaimed and surveyed system, and just clicking "Build All". Then, the nearest construction ship would automatically fly over, build the outpost, and then immediately get to work on exploiting the resources.

Ideally, it wouldn't require all the build costs up front to start, but would instead just earmark minerals as they become available. The Construction ship would then pause while waiting for the next batch of minerals to come in.

Survey:

Similar problem to the construction ship. I think you guys might want to consider an Auto-explore option available at the start instead of requiring you to tech into it. Or perhaps some way to drag select a cluster of systems to survey.

Fleet:
I think your starter fleet should be automatically be mapped to a button so players can just click and go with it. (maybe it already is)

Event Popups:

Some of the simpler events without a lot of text ended up looking kind of stretched on the screen. I wonder if there is a way to resize the pop up box to look better.

Wondering if they will support mouse sand keyboard on the Xbox

Would be nice, but ideally they should focus on getting the controller working well since that is what most players would be using.

I would like it if they would just go through common actions like expanding your empire, building up planets, exploring the galaxy, building a fleet, and just count exactly how many actions it takes to do something simple from the galaxy screen. Then work as hard as they can at reducing the number of button presses and scrolling it takes to accomplish that. If they can really tighten this up, they're going to have a great success. If it's mostly just like PC, it's going to be a slog for console players.

Honestly I believe the game as it is now should be pretty playable with controller. I'm betting on yesterday's stream i wasn't the only one disappointed that they couldn't give a release date just yet.

However I believe i heard them say that next week they may have a release date.

Wondering if they will support mouse sand keyboard on the Xbox

kb/m isnt supported on consoles as they didn't want to spend the resources to QA test how the game works using both input methods

https://www.polygon.com/2019/1/22/18188843/stellaris-ps4-xbox-one-release-date-controller-layout

There are no plans to support keyboard and mouse on either console at this time; Moregård said that the decision came down to a lack of time and resources. Paradox wasn’t eager to add the challenge of porting the game to consoles by also reinventing the interface to work with both controllers as well as keyboard and mouse at the same time.

Understandable given resource constraints and the challenges of just getting the controller UI/UX working at all is a huge undertaking

Not sure if I'm doing it wrong, as I don't use Twitch or Mixer that often, but when I try and watch a replay of the stream on Mixer it seems to be a mislabeled stream of Imperator:Rome? And can't find a replay of the stream on Twitch at all?

Any help appreciated :)
