Could you side with Islamic nations per say? Like if Bzantium was attacked by other Catholic nations, will it be able to have a few Islamic allies for a price? Will Italian city-states, be like republics or kingdoms? Are you able to control the Pope like a puppet if you control the lands in Rome and the Papacy? Are you able to exile or even execute the Pope? If one of your cardinals becomes Pope do you get a bonus for it? Also can you somehow reject the Pope's wishes and demands with a certain price? Are you able to give tribute and achieve higher standing that way with the Pope? Also, can you take the land away from the Church? I know all of these questions are quite bizare if you will, especially when looking at the history, but I think it would be nice if you could do some of this.

Again, E-M, nothing bizarre with your questions..I don´t have all the answers but that´s another matter.
Islamic nations is unplayable as such, but I guess that it matters to Byzantium if it is simultaneously attacked by both catholics and turks..
Italien citystates..hmm..a good one, IMO some of them like Genoa, Pisa or Venice is republics...and probably also unplayable..

I doubt it, but we don't know. Could/should be a possibility to hire e.g. Turc mercenaries like Byzantium did IRL
Will Italian city-states, be like republics or kingdoms?
A bit of both I guess. Some were feudal (i.e. Duchies, Margravates etc), while some where republics...

The Pope is "controllable" noone but Paradox/Snowball know what that means yet...
If one of your cardinals becomes Pope do you get a bonus for it? Also can you somehow reject the Pope's wishes and demands with a certain price? Are you able to give tribute and achieve higher standing that way with the Pope? Also, can you take the land away from the Church?
All of this should be possible, and historic. It will affect your standing with the Church, your Piety points, might get you excommunicated etc.
I know all of these questions are quite bizare if you will, especially when looking at the history, but I think it would be nice if you could do some of this. [/B]
Nothing bizare with this, and I would like to see this too :)

Genoa is most definitely unplayable, and Venice is also very likely to be that way. Pisa, I know nothing about at all. Learn of it, I may.

Definitely should be able to ally with Muslim states. This was done no more than about 10 years after the first crusade by some of the barons of Outremer.:)
