I've been thinking about getting into stellaris again after a long break. (pre Heinlein) And in that time the game has been updated a lot, to the point that I have lots of catching up to do. But I'd like to ask about two particular things. When I played, there were two things about the game that were modest gripes of mine.

1) Is doomstacking still an issue? Piling all of your ships into a deathball and sending them to wreck town was tactically boring for me to dish out and be dealing with. Has there been any changes to the combat mechanics to discourage pilling all of your fleets together?

2) Can you play tall? (Or more specifically, is playing tall strategically viable as opposed to just getting away with it because the AI is dumb or that you have an advantage in some other regard) I've been the type of person who only expands as needed, and prefers to upgrade my existing stuff to be better and maintain a really high quality of life for my population and military. Without the use of mods to artificially boost my stats, can I play as an empire with a low system count, but have those planets really well built up and populated to be an empire that can punch well above the weight it's size on the system map would imply?

1. Yes doomstacks are still alive and well

2. 1.5 will add habitats and megastructures which will make building tall better but still not as good as building wide.
