Hi all,

I am new to Ricky. I never played Vicky, so I wouldn't know the differences between them if they walked up and hit me.

I have the hotfixes from OHgamer installed.

I have read the manuals, and am working my way through the wiki and through Memnons (did I spell that correctly?) manual - but I still have a few questions:

In Memnon's manual he wrote:

"States divided between nations can still have factories built in them, but only those POPs inside your country can be assigned to work in them. When an entire state is conquered, all factories in that state are transferred as well, but keep in mind that as lone as even one of the provinces in a state remain in the hands of the other country, all of the factories will remains in that other country."

This left me feeling a bit confused - is it me or does this contradict itself?

Here is my question on this: If there is a state called "State A" and it has 8 provinces and I acquire (say by war) 4 of the provinces, can I 1) build factories in "my" 4 provinces of State A? To whom do the factories belong? If there were factories in State A before I acquired them, do any of them now belong to me? Or do only the factories I build in my half belong to me? What if the other country takes back half of the 4 provinces of State A I now have? Do I retain all of the factories I build in the 4 provinces of State A that belonged to me? You see where this is going. If there was a seesaw war over State A, how to you keep track of the factories?

This is a general question:

I have been trying to follow the example in the Vickiwiki and have a game running as Brazil. I am doing okay, but I am not able to come anywhere near what is written in the guide. I am not, I like to think, incompetent at these kinds of games - so I am guessing that this guide was written for Vicky and does not map well to Ricky?

For instance, the guide implies that by the mid-1840s, I should have a couple of generals, 10 divisions, multiple allies, etc.

In my game I have, by 1846, finally achieved the 20 pounds per day income and have been edging my defensive spending up. I had to break from the guide and research some tech or I would still be at around the 6 pounds/day rate.

My manpower is -9, I have converted no pops yet because I haven't figured out if I need to at this point. I tried to convert some pops to soldiers, but each one I investigated had soldiers grayed out, even though I have the requisite raw materials.

I finally, in 1846, gained Peru as an ally - but I haven't had a spare diplomat to send to any other country.

The guide even implies going to war by this point.

So, while I am doing okay with Brazil, and am really enjoying the game, I am in no way keeping pace with the guide and therefore I must be missing something.

So perhaps some kind soul can make a few astute observations, but my real question is this: Is there a beginner's walk through based on Ricky for some small, out of the way country?

Thanks!

First, keep in mind that several wiki articles are old and for obsolete patches.

No. If the other country has built any factories to the state, they will remain within the other country as long as even one province in that state belongs to that particular nation. If you get all provinces that belong to that state, you get the factories.

Here is my question on this: If there is a state called "State A" and it has 8 provinces and I acquire (say by war) 4 of the provinces, can I 1) build factories in "my" 4 provinces of State A?

Yes you can.

To whom do the factories belong?

To you.

If there were factories in State A before I acquired them, do any of them now belong to me?

No, they remain in the other part of state.

Or do only the factories I build in my half belong to me?

Yes.

What if the other country takes back half of the 4 provinces of State A I now have? Do I retain all of the factories I build in the 4 provinces of State A that belonged to me?

You retain them all.

You see where this is going. If there was a seesaw war over State A, how to you keep track of the factories?

As long as even one province belongs in that state to the original owner, he keeps all factories there were in the state. You can build your own factories to your side.

It was for non-Revolutions. Revolutions (and patch 1.04 before it) changes some mechanisms, for example industrial score calculation is totally different than what it was in 1.03c.

As you see, things have been changed somewhat.

My manpower is -9, I have converted no pops yet because I haven't figured out if I need to at this point. I tried to convert some pops to soldiers, but each one I investigated had soldiers grayed out, even though I have the requisite raw materials.

It now depens also on the ruling party and what is their stance on military.

Not any comprehensive country guides for Revolutions, I'm afraid. You could check what AARs are written for Revolutions, though.

Just to add to what Skobelev said:

If a state gets split between countries A and B, both owners can build factories in it, and retain those factories until one of them should lose the last province in that state. At that point, if the country taking the provinces was the same that had the other half of the state, the factories get integrated into the ones that country already had there, and if there are "repeats" the levels get added up (for instance, if both had an L1 lumber mill, the winner ends up with an L2 lumber mill). If it's another country taking the provinces, that country gets the factories (so, country A could take 3 of country B's provinces in the state, and if a country C then jumps in and takes that last province, B's factories go to C).

In case 1) (country A takes the lot), if country B then retakes some provinces, it will be back to having no factories in the state. In case 2) (country C snipes that last province), if country B takes provinces back from A, it gets no factories, but if it takes C's lone province it gets back the factories took.

Thanks to you both for the explanations.

It is too bad there isn't a Ricky walkthrough. Perhaps I'll start taking notes. But it will take a while to just be competent enough in the basics to even begin something like this.

Are there enough new players to justify doing this, I wonder?

I think such guide would be welcome. There are always some new players asking about such things. Also, it might give some older players also nice pointers. After all, Vicky is so complex that it's much harder to master than other Paradox games. So if you are willing to do such guide, I must applaud you. :)

Regarding factories and states, isn't it like this:

There is one province where all the factories in the state are located. You can spot that province by changing map view to industrial and you will see that one province in each state have an icon resembling a factory (unless there are no factories in the state).

If you take that province in a peace deal and no other of the provinces in the state, you will get all factories.

When you lose that province but still have all the other provinces in the state, you will have to build new factories and a new province will become the "factory-province".

Edit: Disregard this, I was wrong.

No. Then the factories will be located in some other province.

Losing province? :D

Yes, for example in a war.

Hmm.. I guess I've been playing too many uncivilized nations then...
