I have never witnessed this document before, nor been informed of its existence by my client. The fact that it is produced now, and by an individual seeking to improve their political capital after their husband was executed for high treason, is highly suspicious to my eyes.

Assorted Gentlemen, I would like to address Congress on multiple issues that challenge the fabric of Danubian society and order.
Firstly, and most glaringly as much as we try to ignore it, is the power of the military. Twice the Federation has faced the guns of it's own military - twice democracy has been crushed under the bootheel of military supremacy. These men, whom are supposed to protect the people of this Federation at the cost of their own lives, instead seek to become the Praetorian Guard, they wish to make themselves Kingmakers. Yes, there is many an honest Private, Captain and General. I do not doubt that. Under Ottoman rule, I once was also part of the Military system, and I understand the importance of it's structure and nobility of it's people. However, it is clear the military in this Federation does not wish to act impartially. As a result, we must take action to prevent this tragedy from every occurring again. The military must be accountable to the state, as we cannot depend that the other half of the military will remain loyal. We must not be fooled a third time.
Similarly, we must also address another tradition that must be parted with. If you had asked me, before this war, if Monarchy was an appropriate method in which to rule a state I would have certainly answered "Yes". That was before I saw Monarchy in this Federation for what it was: an artificial and purely powermongering position, with no legitimacy or merit. Those whom advocate Monarchy claim that it is a stronger executive, yet cling to the argument that it is "merely symbolic". It does not prevent autocracy or dictatorship, but simply an excuse for it to exist. Artificial titles must be thrown away, and Republicanism must be upheld. This very war is why Kings must never, for all their tyranny and corruption, be allowed in the Federation.
But, I must address the truly ignored issue we face most of all. I must ask you, does the man working the field truly care whether his head of state is King, or President? Does it matter, when he tries to feed his family for another winter against the rising, Protectionist prices of bread, if state powers are relegated to the Local Parliament or Federal Congress? Can any man honestly tell me what man in the street will genuinely worry about the damned King in Silesia when his taxes are more than his income? The stability of this Federation lies not in state borders or constitutions, but in the Freedom and Liberty of it's people and the strength of it's economy! This Federation has been in a perpetual state of war since it's foundation, and that is indisputable, yet that is unsurprising when Congress is not concerned with matters that truly concern anyone except a small group of political elites. No. We must take away the tariff barriers, we must lower the taxes, and we must empower the Federal market through free trade and economic expansion. Not create artificial Monarchies, not cower away from harming "national pride", not empower the parasite and the agitant through stagnation and absurd, pointless bills.
With this in mind, I shall end the petty regionalism and nationalism of the Southern League, and hereby rename it the Free Market Party. End the tyranny, and begin the economic liberation of our peoples through Free trade. Bread prices must lower, our people must rebuild after eight years of war, and we must uphold the Republican ideals of freedom and liberty.

This is well said. The DLA under my leadership strongly supports free trade and the lowering of the high tariffs which restrict trade and drive up the price of goods. I strongly support the liberal economic views that have been stated here and wish to merge the DLA and the Free Market Party. I am unsure of this new name, perhaps the Freedom Party is a better name.

I have congressed with my client, who utterly refutes the existence of such a document and alleges it to be mere forgery. I cannot comment on its authenticity. But suffice to say, the convenient timing of its arrival, having bolstered the failing case against my client, lends credence to the suggestion that it is counterfeit. Such evidence should have been submitted at the start of the proceedings, not half-way through. Furthermore, I cannot imagine my client - an experienced politician - leaving such a paper trail to condemn himself. I sense insidious hands at work.
Regardless, let me address the evidence. Assuming, arguendo, that this letter is not falsified but indeed genuine; it still has no bearing on the charges. It requests territorial alterations to the existing arrangement of the states. If this is high treason, then half of this Congress should be shot – for they have demanded the same in regards to Hungary. It demonstrates that the author was unaware of, and uninvolved with, the original confederacy against the Federation. And since there is no date, we cannot determine whether it was dispatched before or after the ultimatum issued by Mr Papp; as such, it signals no prior intent. All I see, then, is a man attempting to obtain the best deal for his state out of a bad situation. If Croatia, Slovakia and Transylvania have no compunction in seizing Hungarian territory, then I can hardly see how they could cry foul over this possible forgery.
The prosecution has repeatedly failed to substantiate the allegation of high treason. Mr Vaszary did not use violence; nor did he participate in riots or acts of terror or assaults on federal institutions. His support for General Kremvera was purely verbal in content. The Hungarian State Militia was merely ordered to defend the nation against external aggression. This was their established duty, and Mr Vaszary was well within his powers as President of Hungary to issue such instructions. He did not provide the rebellion with any martial assistance or logistical comfort. He was, for the entirety of the crisis, either a prisoner in Buda Castle or a fugitive on the run. He played no significant part in the rebellion, which would have proceeded much the same regardless of his allegiance.
As such, I move to have the charges of high treason and violation of the Private Militia Act dismissed, and the remaining charge of treason submitted to trial by the Supreme Court.

Seems like the weak father is flailing. I say all of Massingberd's retorts be ignored and we try and execute the traitor.
I hereby join the Free Market Party, which I hope can be renamed to the Freedom Party and hope the other members of the DLA consider this party as well.

Then you would be swiftly brought to trial yourself, Councillor; for the Treason Act specifically states that only the Supreme Court can judge cases of treason, which is clearly defined under that act. If the Federal Government shall obey the letter of its own law, then my client shall face the Supreme Court on the charge of verbal treason. And if you truly respect the Federation you fought to preserve, Mr Popa, then you shall abide by this.

The name shall stay. "Freedom" is far too vague a term, and does not connote any real policy or beliefs. Nor does "Liberty". And vague idealism is the one thing we need far less of. However, your membership is welcomed and certainly appreciated.
