Heh, sometimes my personal feelings get the bettter of me. Such a question is much deeper than it looks. All I could comment on this is that the Romanians would have enough numbers, inside the Federation, to be regarded as a distinct people, different from their Slavic neighbours.

The creation of a Slovakian state is not the thing that upsets me most about the proposed Slovak Nationality Act; the most offensive thing I find in this legislation is the insinuation that the Federation has a right to interfere in the internal happenings of its member states. This issue is entirely internal to the state of Hungary and should remain that way. Such an act should not be passed if it does not receive the consent of both my government and the legislative body that resides in Budapest. Any other course of action would ultimately risk forcing us Hungarians to protect our sovereignty over internal matters with force of arms.

That is not to say I am point blank opposed to a Slovak succession; as a Liberal, I feel I must respect the other nationalities in this Federation, and if it is the overwhelming desire of the inhabitants of Slovakia to form their own state, it is only right that the Government of Hungary is forced to accept the facts. Until such as time as the states' rights to administer their own internal affairs is satisfactorily resolved, however, I will oppose all amendments that violate this right and fight with every inch I entail to ensure that Vienna is not allowed to bully her partners in this young Federation.

That is why i stated if the hungarian people agree to let them go then so be it!

Yes indeed. Once Dalmatia is returned to the Venetian state within the Federation, we will still allow Croats to live and settle. Representation for the Croat minority would also, of course, be healthily provided for within the Consiglio.

We have only been independent of their rapaciousness for sixty years, my grandfather still recoils in horror every time I bring up the subject. I do not deny that such atrocities were committed by a few depraved individuals in the past, but that is then and this is now. You just said you would fight for Venetian liberties, and that you hold no grudges against them, but you then explicity state you do not trust them with Dalmatia. This is the Danubian Federation, and we will protect the innocent from the horrors that were visitied upon them on the past. Ask Councillor Morosini, I have no doubt he does not wish to have the horrors that occured resurface.

It is clear that we have quite different views on the matter of economics, for in my view, it will be a unregulated, unprotected economy that shall suffocate and starve our people. How do you expect Hungarian produce, or Austrian iron, to stand to the same quality and quantity of British or French goods, when we have only recently began to industrialise? It is pure folly to leave Danubian industry to the turbulent winds of the international market, and thus leave it stranded and desolate.

Does nobody care about free trade anymore?! How do you expect Danubian product to be competitive, when capitalists would have to pay inflated wages, only because you keep cheap grain at our borders? How do you expect Danubian farmers to produce enough cheaply to drove the prices of commodities down and make our workers competitive, when the foreign tools are under tariffs and ours are overpriced? If our economy needs anything, it's connection to the outside world, because closed economy breeds only closemindness. And we need to be open and brave and daring? Did the ancient greeks or magnificent Venetians or industrious Duch made profit by closing themselves and crying alone? No, they gained they wealth by trade and activity and we can emulate them. Or do you think that Danubian people are worse than French or Englishman?
