True. The devs have said they aren't giving the original mechs quirks. There are enough potential issues with that, breaking saves, messing up builds, etc. that it isn't worth it for them. They are encouraging the modders to take that on and I have seen some good progress already.
I haven't seen a full published mod, just conversations about what would be appropriate quirks.@Jade_Rook I looked both in nexus and here. Is there already a mod adding quirks to the older mechs?
I'd love to see an official HBS mod or something. Fact of the matter is that, as much as breaking saves and messing up existing builds sucks, lack of quirks on some of the mechs kinda messes with the balance; certain mechs that were otherwise good, just kinda suck when up against the Heavy metal mechs, and they really should just ask us to suck it up since we can always roll back to a previous version. The devs have said they aren't giving the original mechs quirks. More 'Mech variants? I hope this comes with a re-work of the salvage system to fix the problem of having 2/3 of 4 different Locusts, and no deployable Locust.
RogueTech does include Chassis Quirks for some, though not all of its Mechs:
Each of the HEAVY METAL BattleMech Quirks are physically represented by a piece of specialized equipment in one or more Critical Spaces.I still don't see how quirks for old mechs would have to break saves. The pilot revamp didn't. Oh well, probably a lost cause at this point...

The problem comes up when a save for... let’s say a Griffin, tried to put its new Quirk - the 7-Critical Space “Battle Fist” into an Arm that already had all its Critical Spaces already occupied, thus a Broken Save.
In almost all cases it will not be a very big deal... but it is still entirely possible that someone has a save out there where they are running the ragged edge of losing and don't have enough cash on hand (or time) to re-jigger their mechs before running a mission. (Yeah, dropping equipment doesn't take any time or money. But if you're dropping equipment to make room for zero-weight special equipment, you're going to want to re-mount it.)Now if you’re out of mission, you won’t be able to drop affected mechs until you make them legal. This happened to my punchbot Banshee the first time arm mod sizes got rebalanced (tripled in size) It was not a very big deal.
Agreed. I´d rather HBS gave quirks to the old chassis even if it meant breaking old saves.
A few days heads up before the update is all i would need.
I´d just strip equip in the old mechs and make a new save to be loaded after the update.

The majority of players won't know an update is coming until after it is installed. There are only a couple of games that I check the news for. Most players have never been to the forums. As long as the update isn't just thrown out unannounced then being on the ragged edge isn't a big deal either. Simply hold off installing the update until you're ready for it. If I can block updates for months so as not to bust my modded game then they can do the same to protect their saves.
