Viljo Heino was a Finnish long-distance runner winning the European Championships in 10 000 m, Oslo 1946.
Heino fought in the Winter War and was severely wounded in his legs. Doctors said, -You'll never run again.
Viljo Heino started his career well before the WWII, but was hindered by the dozens of the other Finnish long-distance runners. After wounding he rehabilitated himself, particularly during the Interim Peace and during the first years of the Continuation War. In 1944 Heino ran the WR in 10 000 meters and in 6-mile run. In total, he ran 6 WR in different distances and all of them after his wounding in the Winter War.
Viljo Heino won the European Championship in 10 000 meters in 1946, Oslo, Norway.
EDIT: Heino's WR in 10 000 meters was broken by Emil Zatopek, Czechoslovakia
