Operation Reconquista
To begin with this update, let’s take a look at the economy.
(Note, I did fiddle with this. A lot.)
I decide to switch my focus off of consumer goods and supplies and onto reinforcements. Even though our units are horribly obsolete, I decide against upgrades. However, problems do plague the system. Often times I am just on the verge of running out of vital resources, leading to crippling decreases in IC efficiency. I remedy this problem by trading my blueprints to nations that are high in resources, and low in tech. The best candidates for this are most commonly in the Balkans and South America, with Yugoslavia a particular favorite.
Perhaps more crippling is my unguarded northern territories.
When the CW started, a large portion of navy defected, among which a large portion of my transports. This, coupled with my unwillingness to send units to guard them, creates a situation in which the nationalist are given the opportunity to seize large portions of my IC. Given enough time, I will be starved.
A Game of Grand Strategy
After the Early successes of our last update, and with the pressing concerns detailed above, I decide to push my luck and go for a three-pronged attack all along the border.
All is not Quiet on the Western Front
In the west, after a brief counter attack by nationalist forces, we capture Seville and garrison the previously isolated province of Huelva. Now able to support the attack on Corduba, I do, which rapidly turns the tide of the battle towards our favor. As the forces that previously held Corduba turn tale and run, I decide to seize the initiative, and plan a grand offensive to force the Rebels out of Badajoz and create a stable front all along the West.
A Stroll through the City of Madrid
As the offensive in the west is taking shape, the offensive in the center is about to begin. Madrid, former capital of the Republic, is under a Fascist garrison, and is threatening my own capital of Tarancon. The enemy capital, Burgas, is under no such danger. The goal of this campaign is simple, and less ambitious than the Western offensive. The goal is the Jewel of Iberia, Madrid. Should we capture it, we will deprive the Nationalists of their base of operations in Central Spain, and stabilize our current situation immensely.
The Third Wave
I can say with full confidence, that this, the Easternmost portion of the campaign, was the area in which the most difficult fighting took place. It was also the most vital. Had I lost this campaign, or had the misfortune of being bogged down, the entire front may of collapsed. Would it of been possible, I would of given a commemoration to each of the video game men who took part in that campaign. However, it did not begin that way…
The goal of the Third-Wave Campaign was multilayered. I was to push into the undefended regions of Huesca and Zaragoza, to threaten the enemy capital in Badajoz, and to examine the possibility of encirclement of Nationalist forces Teruel. Most importantly, I would attempt to connect with and garrison the northern territories. As said above, these territories provided considerable manpower, resources, and IC to the campaign. Many of them were already lost…
With the details and early implementations of Operation Reconquista thusly described, I must leave you, dear reader, with these last two screenshots.
Until next time, on…
