So today at work I started to conceive a Christmas themed challenge for CK2 and am calling out to the Community to contribute ideas on how best to accomplish this. As i see it a Christmas challenge should focus on the holy lands and especially the Pentarchy (as either Orthodox or Miaphsyite). It shouldn't be anything as basic as useing the Byzantine empire as either the nation of choice or as an ally. One interesting self imposed rule I have thought up is Christmas peace, Only on christmas would you be allowed to accept, enforce, or request peace. So if you're at war with the fatimids and they offer you a peace that expires on December 24th then you're out of lucky. Be prepared for another year of war.

So what do you all think? what kind of limits should a christmas challenge have?

Post Edit: one possibility that i've just discovered thanks to wikipedia would be to start as a count in Lykia in 1066. The birth place of the historic saint Nicholas

As there is no winter fair, every summer you give away say 2-5% of your treasury to a random unimportant character to simulate the revelries. In addition, give gifts to people on Christmas. Who is your choice, but if you want, you can add that they must be landed.

That would be quite difficult to do without specially coded events/decisions. That said, sounds like it might be easy to code. Also, it's Christmas, how come they need to be landed? Isn't that the opposite of "what christmas is about"? Maybe it could be that they require positive piety and not negative though, and maybe also no heretics or other religions.

Play as Bohemia. You have to name all your heirs Wenceslas, throw a feast EVERY December 25th and give the rest of your treasury away.

Four good suggestions but i believe they add more Flavor then challenge. I like the Idea of Gift giving so perhaps a restriction of handing out titles and or monetary gifts only on christmas? in all though i'm looking for possible objectives, things to be accomplished by Christmas of 1XXX year. Eleven smaller objectives with a twelfth large one could also be incorporated. I want it to be a serious hard challenge that is actually possible. Such as leading the Clause dynasty to Lykian independence from Samos by christmas 1067, first duchy by 1070, founded kingdom of greece, and Achieved independence from ERE by 1099, conquer Judea (aka Jerusalem) and antioch by 1110, capture city of alexandria by 1131, again all of these wars ending on or peace offers sent on a Christmas only date. In this proposed passage of events the gift giving element would hamper your efforts by forcing the player to hold onto titles untill the christmas of the following year thereby fermenting dissatisfaction if several where captured at once while also putting a player into relative poverty after the christmas season.

It doesn't have to be historic people, though forcing william the bastard to become king of england on christmas of 1066 would be an interesting twist instead of just claiming the throne whenever.

EDIT fourth suggestion showed up while typing

Start as the ruler of Lykia (St. Nicks birthplace as the op pointed out) and create the Empire of Christmas!

Someone needs to mod in the Empire of Christmas.

Now there's a thought and it's pretty easy to do. what's the northern most county in ck2? should the final objective be to spread the EoC to the world? or just the unification of Christendom? As we all know santa brings presents to good boys and girls so perhaps instead of coal and switches to bad children we could have santa bring death and destruction to infidels and sinners? Imprison all The lustfull sots of the world!

Conquer Lapland in the name of christendom?
You could even have to rename it "santa's workshop".

Something involving Lapland seems fairly obvious to me.

Will be cool to see steam do what they did last year with all the xmas challenges. I hope CK2 gets one if they do it again!

Finnmark (northernmost Scandinavia) appears to be the closest to the North Pole you can get in CKII.

Before you begin you need to mod the name of the Scandinavian Empire to The Empire of Christmas

Start as the ruler of Finnmark. Rename it The North Pole. Rename the castle (and only holding in the county) to Santa's Workshop. Make it your capital.

Form the Empire of Christmas and conquer the entire map.

All rulers must be called Santa Claus.

This is insane. :)

YES YES YES! i love it. One additional thing that could be done would be to open the religions file and turn pagans to playable=yes change the name of the norse to something christmasy and set god names as GOD_Great_Clause GOD_Jolly_old_Saint and GOD_Sinterclaus
Then santa can bring Joy to all the world as with his Pagany goodness.
