1. Say I get rid of all my yellow industrial and swap it for cyan. Does the ground pollution ever go away?

2. Do I need cemeteries if I have crematoriums? Im just trying to figure out the best way to manage all the dead people in my city. :p Mine fill up FAST. lol

3. How does emptying cemeteries and garbage dumps work? Do they just go the another facility of the same type or do they go to incinerators and crematoriums?

1. Over time it will dissipate
2. Not everyone likes to be cremated, so keeping cemeteries around is better in the long run (also crematoriums don't have as many hearses for collection)
3. If you have incinerators/crematoriums then they will empty to there by preference, if not, they empty to another facility of the same type.
Bonus 4. Unlike crematoriums, once you unlock incinerators you no longer need regular dumps as long as you can afford the maintenance costs, also incinerators have more trucks.

I don't think cims have a preference, it's just a first come first serve thing.

I use cemeteries as temporary holding buffers for my crematoriums, which I will empty regularly.

Once the crematoriums are unlocked there is absolutely zero need for cemeteries. It is just a waste of $. Use them if you wish however they work exactly like incinerators. Once you unlock incinerators you will never need a dump again.
However, if you want to spend money on the look or what real life people prefer (use) then you can plop both. You will however just be wasting money.

It's no so black and white. Cemeteries can be used to extend your service coverage benefits when you don't need to entire expense of a new crematorium. Maintain the proper ratio to your needs and you'll be saving money.

Not that money is difficult to get in the long run anyway.

This is false. Cemeteries have more hearses. If you build only crematoriums you will have massive over-capacity for burning (the hearses from my crematoriums don't come close to actually meeting the capacity for the crematoriums) and they cost a ton more to upkeep. You can save money by having adequate numbers of crematoriums and then filling out your hearse capacity with cemeteries. Then, instead of building new cemeteries when they get full, you empty them out into the crematoriums. This is a pain in the ass, but cemeteries are hardly pointless.

If this is your experience then your issue is most likely with health and crematorium placement within your city. If you have a very good health system and your crematoriums are placed properly the number of hearses is a non factor.
My guess would be you are trying to place your dumps and cemeteries far away from your residential areas for the 'look' or 'feel' of the way you build your city. You don't want them close to where your cims live.
It is a progression: cemetery to crematorium/ dump to incinerator. Using both is counter productive. You can if you wish however I never have to. It is just your type of mayoring, not mine.

My cemeteries and crematoriums go where they are needed. They don't produce pollution and it's not strange to see cemeteries in residential/commercial areas. Garbage is irrelevant because if you were talking about incinerators I'd agree. Because incinerators have more garbage trucks than dumps and as a result, the trucks associated with an incinerator actually have the capability to keep that incinerator full. Once you have incinerators there's no need for landfill. This is not the case with deathcare. It has nothing to do with where you place them because even if you place them in the centre of everything, cemeteries still have more hearses than crematoriums. For every 2 cemeteries you get a free crematorium worth of heases. Don't take this as "which you need because you need lots of hearses", what it means is that if you build 2 cemeteries, you can demolish 3 crematoriums and save yourself about 1,800 Cimoleons a week. Unless you're saying that the 7 hearses in a crematorium are legitimately enough to fill the crematorium up. Because that's not been my experience.

Like I said dood it is just a personal preference
The last city I had before formatting 680k population and I only used crematoriums and incinerators
The current city I am building 187k and I am still only using crematoriums and incinerators

The OP's question of does he need both absolutely not. You can use both but do you need both not at all

Except the answer given was:
Once the crematoriums are unlocked there is absolutely zero need for cemeteries. It is just a waste of $.
And fine if your way of playing involves only using crematoriums (mine involves downloading a crematorium with more hearses from the workshop because I can't really be bothered constantly emptying my cemeteries), but cemeteries certainly aren't simply a waste of money once crematoriums are unlocked.

I think your main questions where answered. However I would like to add one more thing about Incinerators, in case you were unaware. They also generate a decent amount of power from burning the garbage. :) So after your dumps have been emptied, I would suggest just replacing them with Incinerators.
