I've had a couple of interesting things happen in my most recent EU3 game, and I'm not sure what the deal is. I don't think they're bugs, more likely there's something I'm not understanding here.

First off, I defeated Castille in a war and made them end the vassalization of Navarra. Seconds later, a message pops up in the log saying Navarra has become a vassal of Castille again. Are they supposed to be able to do this? I thought that the Truce prevented countries from signing deals with each other after such an event...

Anyway, here's the weirder one. I seem to be unable to release the nation of Riga in any way, shape or form. It had been annexed and I wanted to re-release it for the Imperial Authority and whatnot, but the option was not appearing in the peace deal menu. I can't figure out why not - they still had the core on riga, and riga didn't exist anywhere else, so I don't known why I couldn't do it. So, I just made them cede the province to me, in the hopes that I would release it as a vassal myself, but I still couldn't do that! is there something I'm missing here?

riga has the wrong culture so it cant be released. the vassal thing is because the AI tries to maintain high relations with its vassals, so the conditions are met to re-vassalise straight away-you still get the prestige from forcing the release and the AI has to waste a diplomat but there are usually better things to spend the warscore on.

No, truce prevent country to declare war to each other (or better, you still can but you will get a -5 stability hit) but has no effect on diplomacy ability. So yes, you can ask to a country in peace deal to cancel a treaty with another country but they can sigh it again the day after if they have diplomats.

To release a country you need core but also same culture for province where core is and culture of wannabe release country. You have all of this in your current game?

I've also noticed a peace treaty restricts your interaction with countries in the enemy country's sphere of influence.

Sometimes I can't seem to release countries even if they've got a core and are the original culture. I can't seem to release Athens even though it's Greek and cored. There's also Berry, which is currently Cosmopolitan and I presume that's the original culture.

If I remember correctly Athens has Lombard culture like Achaea or Corfu, so you cannot release them.
