Well after playing a couple of games with the new DLC, I've noticed a couple of interesting tidbits that I would love to share with you lot, especially @podcat
1. Minister silliness
In the case of Manchukuo, they have 2 choices for Chief of Army.
Generic, +10% Attack
Von Falkenhausen, who requires 3 focuses to get to, +10% Attack
Soooo, I go with the generic one then and use Falkenhausen as a General? I mean, sure beats using the other generals(except Yoshiko, love you
)
Same thing with Manchukuo and the Air Doctrine ministers. Why bother with Chennault when I have a minister who is just as good? Come to think of it, it is not like I'll muster an actual air-force, except as the Nationalists, maybe, on a lucky day
. I've noticed other Chinese nations having similar issues.
How to fix? Simple! Make the generic ministers in those cases weaker, as they should be, or perhaps buff the foreign ones, for example make Falkenhausen a genius, which will make rushing for foreign aid more rewarding. As it is, the main use of the Foreign aid focuses is to get a couple of factories, and also general Falkenhausen and Cherepanov, since the rest are difficult to make use of with your abysmal production.
Heck, I managed this
By just spamming this
If I capitulate the communists they all capitulate, so I try to weaken them all as much as possible without breaking them to make my conquest easier. I could just rush to knock off Japan, but then I will have to deal with Yunaan-China and the rest... Yeah, let's make use of their war
2. Japan is hard-wired to do the Manchukuo focuses early if you play Manchukuo.
I did multiple runs as Manchukuo, and in all of them Japan did the focuses to help me earlier. Something tells me that the AI is programmed to help the player on this case(Regular difficulty btw).
3. From what I understand, Japan has a decision to offer a surrender of all Mainland Asian lands if you knock them off Mainland Asia. How does it work? We need a clearer indicator for that.
4. In the Beta, the generals acquire traits very fast, in just 1.5 years of combat, Yoshiko became a beast, with Falkenhausen and Cherepanov catching up quickly.
5. Pro tip. Don't use Field Marshal frontlines! Offensives easily lead to holes in the frontline, which the AI abuses with fervor. Safe to say that I nearly lost my sanity after I was knocked back to the Yang-Tse 3 times after a successful offensive because of a random hole. Them holes man, it's always the holes...
6. Even with these issues, Manchukuo is a blast to play. The tree is certainly better than Road to 56(or whichever mod RT56 took from), although I would have liked some random events and risk of Japan pre-emptively attacking me/forcing me to give up, like you had in Road to 56. Now I just need to think of a way to properly invade Japan and annex them, since I want to complete all Manchukuo achievements in one run. It is possible, but not easy at all
