  • Europa Universalis: Rome
I bought this game ages ago but could never get the hang of it.

After playing Hearts of Iron 2 Doomsday and Rome I've dusted it off to play again.

Currently playing as England and enjoying it but have a few questions.

1) Are Governors the only way to lower inflation?

2) What are the best positions for my domestic sliders?

3) Is it better to concentrate my research mostly on land and naval or Trade and Infrastructure?

Cheers in advance for the replies

1) Yes. There are some random events that lower inflation too, but you can't control those much.

2,3) Both depend on what direction you want to take your country.

1. Yes. also from special events.
2. it depends from nation you are playing:) for England i would choose full naval full narrowminded and full mercantilism and of course full offensive and full quality.
3. it also depends from your playing style:) first you should reach 9 lvl land and later it depends from situation:D

2. Main concern should be full centralization with nearly every nation (except, when you're going to do a world conquest).
The others depend on your Strategy. As you won't colonize early on, I'd wait with Inno 0, because you won't make use of the additional settlers.
If you want to expand fast, then aristocracy is the way to go. If you want to concentrate on naval superiorety and trade, then plutocracy is better. I also like to enslave the people (serfdom) for the much cheaper stability costs. But there are reason pro and contra every slider position.

3. Playing a strong european Nation in a Grand Campaign, I strongly recommend (given that you've Level 1 in everything):
Trade 2
Infra 2
(Maybe Land 2, if you want. I'd wait for that)
Infra 3
Trade 3
By now, it depends on how advanced your Neighbours are. If somebody is at Land 5 or 6 already, I'd go for Land 9 as a beginner. If not:
Infra 4
Trade 4
Infra 5
Trade 5
And then: Land, until you lead in this terms. Then you can focus on Naval techs to make better use of your explorers.

Always research one Tech a time.

And don't forget just to enjoy the great game!

Always research one Tech a time.

I always go full decentralization, as i usually keep around 4-10 vassals, thus lowering tech/stab costs.

Also, when i'm playing as a european i never focus on just one tech, it seems gamey as you will explode past everyone usually if you equally research all techs at once. the only exception for me is infra 5, which i'll push to get governors before 1550.
