How come China doesn't spend all that money? I use the EU Spy and I notice that China has a load of money. You Eu Spy users probable noticed it to. This is more money than I get in two games together! Its early in the game too! In my current game Spain has over 52,000 Ducats. Same question with her. Why not start building manufactories? Improve relations? etc?

they can't.

china is pagan so can't build taxmen, judges or manufactories.

so that just leaves diplomacy. over time in IGC it slowly diploannexes all its neighbours and allies, so cash gets slowly spent in improving relations.

but china has very weak leaders, and some coded time of troubles of its own, so even that takes a long time. if left alone, they will probably annex dai viet, korea, and "burma" too by the 18th C.

all this i learned the hard way, by trying to play them once. it was very dull, even for a relative peacemonger like me, so i never finished that game.

In my Sibir game, most everyone is dirt poor, even Spain and the other majors! The richest country is Kazan (why?), with, IIRC, around 600d.

Hmmmm....it seems that the minors are often the ones with the most money, (God knows why) and they have the biggest armies and are the most defended and best tech...:(

in minors favour, they generally lack CB's, and so rarely declare wars. wars raise troop maintenence costs and lead to a deteriration of foreign relations, even if you win. campagining will lower populatin and tax value of provinces. given all that, many minors are happy to be left alone, and so reap the benefits of peace!

What? An absurd amount for army maintenance being weary of them minors?! ;)

i fiddled a second time around, and made them shiite. there was more to do then, but really, the scenario still lacked the compelling dynamism you get playing as a european country. like fastasia: tedious.

it just feels to me better to leave the middle kingdom dreaming.
