Sorry, to be more exact, I meant say, during the game, you send a secret message to another player via Steam or Skype or something, instead of (I assume there will be one) using the in game chat which everyone could see.

So it would be like, middle of the game, Japan looks like they're amassing south, Australia starts sweating, the suddenly, a private message from Germany. "Surrender peacefully, and I will guarantee a fair settlement by having a word with Japan", or something like that. So its DURING the game, but not IN the game.

Steam is all well and good for communication but nothing beats actual voice chat ;) Obviously not a huge concern now but in the weeks leading up I might request it again, at least for anyone keen to properly talk.
That's what I had in mind so yes backdoor policies are fine

Any other rp ideas you have
Im pretty accommodating on that front

That's what I originally had in mind so yes backdoor politics are totally fine.
Awesome, but perhaps as a minor clause rule such policies should occur only between Majors with Minors and vice versa, to keep the war going reasonable.

Perhaps instead of saying "You must invade Japan" we can broaden the rule to "In order for terms of surrender to be issued, you must occupy the enemies capital." This basically covers Operation Downfall, but also would stop the USSR prematurely capitulating (haha), and give the USA a good reason to not be kicked from the war entirely unchallenged. Also because, as the German player, I want to at least try Operation Seelöwe, so this rule benefits Great Britain.

Another suggestion if I may, is the USA and the USSR may not declare/join the war till August 1st 1941. I don't really mind if this is too unreasonable, I simply think it would be slightly historical, and I don't deny as Germany the thought of facing France and Russia right from the get go is very intimidating. Just throwing it out there, I'll respect and abide by the final ruling.

Lastly concerning Nukes. We know (for now) in order for them to be built you need reactors. I was thinking this, to limit Nuke spam, but not to lock out the nations who historically had an investment in them, we have a limit to reactors for each nation. Nothing complicated, something like:

USA: 3
USSR/Germany: 2
Everyone else: 1

This way USA as they historically did have the edge, but still wont be able to just rain hell everywhere with impunity. The Soviets and Germans are only slightly behind, and the rest of the world coming last so they have to make theirs count. Numbers of course free to alter, and by the games release Nukes might be so different it dosent matter, but for ow this is just an idea.

How about for fun making up backstories for the generals and leaders you're unfamiliar with? Most of us know the big shots, like Rommel and Patton ect ect, but every nation will have a few leaders we just know nothing about, and I think it would be fun to just, make it all up and share, see how creative you can be.

In game rivalry can be another thing, like as a 'game' the objective is to win, but lets say, I get a bit salty at Italy who's not advancing as fast as I am. Italy could just be like, well as a 'player' I'm obliged to try harder, OR as a 'character', he can say "Herr General, Il Duce says he's halting all operations for a week to celebrate his birthday, have fun without me", and stops advancing. In a real war, this would be a HUGE disruption, but not an unrealistic action as in-army rivalries and competition often led commanders to making such stupid decisions IRL. I think it would be fun and really encourage not only to NOT be salty with your allies but also a decent in game way to simulate a minor repercussion, so long as nobody takes it too far.

Perhaps Air aces can be used for something, like if Germany and UK obtain an Air ace, they have to deploy them to the same airspace so they can duke it out. Apart from in game motivation to lower the enemies national unity, seems like a fun way to boast who controls the air and what not. We might even keep tallies ;)

General Tojo,

As you requested I submit my plans for Operazione Tiramisu:
We have added some encryption to prevent the enemy of seeing these plans so easily!

Operazione_Tiramisu.jpg

First start is the invasion of Egypt and the English and french Mandates. This is the part up to the Red Borders with a focus on fighting near Cairo and the Suez.
I estimate that this first phase will take at least a year, severely depending on the amount of resistance we will be facing. If during this time the Belgians could spare the troops to invade British Africa from Kongo it might increase the pressure on Britain.

As to the second phase of this plan, the parts in green, The southern strike into Saudi Arabia will only happen if the Arabians are unwilling to see the light of our cause and join our enemies, the same for Oman and Yemen. The British parts of Arabia will be taken by landings. As for Persia and Iraq: We hope to make a quick break through against Iraq followed by a blitz on Baghdad and Teheran, hopefully forcing Iraq and Persia into a quick surrender. The total time would be estimated on 2 years after the start of phase 1. Perhaps we Could Influence the Raj to abandon England?

Signed,

Admiral Arturo Riccardi

(As to the rules suggestions etc. sounds great! Maybe we could also make up backgrounds and legends for our divisions and post them here?)

Do that the common generals is a good backstory substitute

Rivalry is a great idea
If I remember right Paton and Montgomery had a rivalry to see who could get to Germany first

I personally promise to commit 12 Afrika divisions at the outset, with however many more needed as time goes on. As you are aware these will be fully Motorized, with Light Tanks focused on reliability to minimize environmental breakdowns. After Crete and Malta are secured, I can promise Wolf packs and the Luftwaffe will make enemy shipping a nightmare. The Fallschirmjäger of course will play their part well in this conflict.

If I can spare it, Belgium might receive a few Volunteers of their own to help in harassing the Allied holdings in Africa.

Germany offers Italy the opportunity to focus entirely on the front, if we can spare it. We propose you leave the garrison and policing of vital ports and railways to us in North Africa, in order to avoid you own limited forces being spread too thin.

*salutes* I admire your detailed planning Admiral, you do your country proud.

The Rules as of Now:

1: The war is to, if possible, continue through the 50's and possibly the 60's. Adjust your operations to accommodate for this.

2: Fascist countries, with the exception of Japan, can not initiate conflict until at LEAST September 1st 1939. The USA and USSR can not attack anyone until August 1st 1941, however they can be pulled into existing conflicts if a Fascist nation declares war on them beforehand.

3: Nuclear reactors are to be limited to avoid a never-ending Nuke spam fest. For now, the Limits are:
USA:3 - USSR:2 - Germany:2 - Everyone Else:1

4: In order for any Faction to surrender, all of the Major members capital's must be occupied and held for a period of time (to be decided). If a player's nation has capitulated but control colonies (like France), they may continue the fight until either their faction is defeated or their countries restored.

5: Players of Minor nations are free to create their own faction, with which they can either use to take on the traditional big 3, or forge alliances with them to help, or to simply stay neutral in strength.

6: Modding is not strictly forbidden but must be discussed with the group to avoid games becoming incompatible. It is highly likely the first game will be un-modded for the sake of an even playing field.

7: Anyone with a Twitch or Youtube account and good recording software is encouraged to record the game, but this is of course not a nessessity.

Regarding Role-play:

In this game you are encouraged to role-play your part in the conflict as much as you are comfortable with. If you have no interest in RP that won't jeopardize your chances at joining the game, but we ask you respect anyone else who is interested in the RP aspect of the game. As such, if you want to set yourself up with a 'Persona' for other players to address you by, a new thread will be created for you to share your identity.

Using methods of communication outside of the game to contact other players is allowed, but only secret alliances may be formed between Majors with Minors or vice versa. Majors may still enter secret trades with each other if they want however, and the sharing of plans is allowed also. Basically, a Major may help another Major, but they cannot outright change sides in the conflict.

During the conflict occupied territory may be exchanged between participants freely, until the Peace Conference where it will be permanently given to whomever can be the most persuasive.

If the war is truly going south for your nation or you have to quit the game for any particular reason, peace talks can prematurely begin and conditions agreed upon but ultimately these can't be enforced until the Peace Conference.

Limited War's are allowed, as in private conflicts between plays and AI without dragging in the entire alliance. However, you will have to be persuasive, as of course personal conflicts benefits only you.

Units with the Elite status are encouraged to have a backstory, however scarce or detailed. As always, not mandatory.

A special Steam group will be formed closer to the games launch to finalize spots, update Rules, and generally make it easier for players to mingle and organize. Any suggestions for rules or other ways to RP is welcome and encouraged to share, but as always, OP has the final say.

Thank you for taking the time to read, we look forward to having you if you join

The democrats and communist are in a tentative alliance against the axis!
And it seems one of the Soviet commanders
Calls the rules of war ludicrous!
Typical Democratic cowards, always afraid to do anything themselves, and in true Red fashion, the Communists betray their own ideals and side with Capitalists because they KNOW they can't stand alone, for all their bravado.

They call us dreamers, they call us ludicrous, but I say this to them my friends, have we not shown ourselves to be greater men because we stand for our ideals with NO COMPROMISE! Their insults wash over my back like water on ducks. Let them back their words with cold steel, for that is precisely what I intend to do!

(Casual reminder all mud slinging is in good humor and I hope nobody is taking it personally. We don't want this getting too out of hand ;))

All insults bravado etc is for rp purposes only

Now the democracies better grow spines because all the emperor sees is a bunch of spineless dishonorable pansy's who can't stand up for their so called democracy

All insults bravado etc is for rp purposes only

Now the democracies better grow spines because all the emperor sees is a bunch of spineless dishonorable pansy's who can't stand up for their so called democracy
The Führer finds it hilarious they sneer down their noses at us, while their own 'meetings' could barely fill a propaganda leaflet! Meanwhile, we have enough material here to publish a guide on "How to Start a Faction and not totally Suck" :D

When I have time I will follow Herr Quendallon's lead and post some maps with proposed partitions so we're all on the same page of who's claimed what :)
