a bit of a disappointment, where are those beautiful CiM 1 Maps?

Well After 2 days of playing the game (more of trying it out) I have to say I'm disappointed in it.

The game has allot of potential, it has a very fluent engine, good simulation and large maps. But it really seems like the studio worked hard on the game and a few days before they finished it, they started creating the maps. The cities don't look like cities at all, not even close and they don't have a city feeling. It may be difficult to explain, but in the CiM 1 Cities this was perfectly done, you could easily see the different sections of the city like in real life, with special buildings important for public transport.

So in CiM 1 we had beautiful designed Cities, each with it own feeling, in CiM 2 we have a Bunch of building trown together (and mostly those dense buildings).

But I don't give up my hope's, I hope that in the future there will be nice maps from the studio (DLC) or from the Community. The game has the potential but for now I put it to rest.

Oh and the names of the Cities 'West, North, ....' they actually catch everything I've written here, they are so without creativity'

I actually find it very beautiful. Feels like metropolis!

I do miss some historic buildings, parks, theme parks, ...

Otherwise in my opinion it's a step up from CiM 1.

I think that the CIM community can handle this. If yI think the biggest problem is just the fact that the cities look different. The reason: CIM 2 is Modern Times and CIM 1 was history times.

I don't understand this comment... Why should a game nog give a good Experience on release, ie, good designed maps, like CiM 1 did? It's not like this is a bug or so that can be easily fixed, it's a hard lack of city design

The focus of CIM 1 was in the cities themselves. The team travelled around gathering information and one of the big selling points of the game was the historical looking cities. The simulation/gameplay on CIM1 was not the primary focus and feedback was very adamant in that regard. We wanted a transport/traffic game with a robust simulation. So that is the focus of CIM2.

You can argue that should have done both, but it is a small development team and there is also that saying, if you try to do too much you get everything wrong. As you said, better looking and more creative cities might come as DLC.

Well, I hope the community will, and if I find enough time myself I will gladly create my own map. I do like historic cities more then modern (or at least a mix), but this is not really my point. You can create a beautiful nice designed city with feeling in modern Theme if you take the time and not let it get auto generated a few times and call it West, North, ...

The maps don't have a city center, suburban area and villages which sprawl out... It's just a bunch of buildings...

I agree with ofptim here. A lot of the issues the game currently has can be easily fixed. The cities are no fixable features however.
I find it hard to believe that the same people who designed the great looking, detailed and atmospheric CIM1 cities released this game.

The CEO in the live stream also stated that she didn't see the point of airfields (malls, trainstation) WHAT!?
It was like the single most important thing that gave direction to sandbox games. Look for the airfields etc. and build a network around them. They just cut it out..
I really hope they will come with some cities that actually resemble real cities.
Colossal proved to me with its predecessor that they know how to build cities. What hapend ?

agreed - and because the cities are huge (what actually is good), you need orientation points like places, landmarks, some historical buildings, parks,train station, airport etc. Otherwise you get lost in a brick desert where every city district looks like the other. And playgame is more kind of work than actually playing.

If you went to Manhattan this is what you see lol In fact, it is how most North American cities look like.

Now to me, these cities look more "alive" and realistic than in CIM1. This however does not mean that there should not be more landmarks and variety of buildings. This is essentially the issue.

I think the colors in the city kinda reflect modern times too. I don't know about anyone else, but the decades gone by seem a lot brighter than today. Cities looked more colorful.

I see what you mean, But Manhatten is not a City, Manhatten is a part of a large city. I would rather have a full city with all his parts then only the city center with blocks.

It is not just Manhattan, every North American city with some size, looks like that.

The outer suburbs are also represented in the game so I don't see what you really mean.

The only point where you are right is that there are not many landmarks and there should be more unique buildings.

Ok, maybe then it's just me and af few others, But i just fired up CiM 1 again, and took some screens.. the detail which got in to the city creation was much more... I miss that

In my opinion CIM cities are nicer than in CIM2 is evident. The light in CIM2 is poor, lifeless. The feeling is of uniformity and monotony, with no reference points.
They are cities with a functional style of some U.S. cities, but off.
In a simulation is so important bus lanes or traffic lights, etc ... as is the environmental feeling, atmosphere ..... I think this game requires attention to the general ambience. I guess lod DLC and the work of the community will mitigate in part these deficiencies.
That said I want to acknowledge the work done and certainly leaneth buying all the DLC that's released. I also grateful for the patience and attention to us customers.

It is very important to remember that CiM 2 is a different game. Its not an expansion of CiM 1. What I mean is: CiM 2 brings a lot of other features requested by the players, and one of them are bigger maps.
Another variable is: CO is a small company and cannot just do everything.
With that in mind, its really a question of details or big cities and several other features.

I thought exactly the same as you guys. CiM 1 have indeed a great atmosphere. But with CiM 2 cities, its impossible to create cities like CiM 1. That amount of detail done manually is nearly impossible. Lets hope new buildings will come in the future, but you need to keep in mind that CiM 2 focus is different. Its more about the routes, timetables, having a huge network, and less about the history, the types of cities, etc. Basically CiM 2 is not CiM 1, not necessarily worst and not necessarily better on everything.

Cities in Motion 2 is a good game and CO did a great job considering how small a team they are.
But the cities are lacking in character and look unrealistically generic to me. They really could use some landmarks like civic buildings, stadiums, train-stations, amusement parks, etc, you know stuff a real city has (even in the dull concrete jungle cities of North-America)
My other issue with the cities is that there are no real suburbs the city immediately starts with high rises. It also could use more variety in buildings. And the lack of a city center disturbs me, but that may be because i'm European.

When they add stuff like that I do believe that with this engine you could create some truly magnificent cities. Either made by CO or by the modding community.

I think it is much more easier to create new maps on a more advanced engine than to improve an old engine which was focused on a small set of features, so try waiting a bit. C'mon, there are already four CiM 2 maps on the CiM Exchange, two of them on the forums too.
(and we have hills! Imagine how Vienna could be awesome with this new engine!)

(this is actually very similar to the whole "OMG EU3 HAS NO HISTORICAL EVENTS SHUN THE UNBELIEVERS" ruckus.)
