And here comes the Civil War. A shame elections won't be held but well Reed had little chances to get into the Presidency anyway. At least the Unions and the Workers have a legitimate reason to rise up against the old United States.

Comrades, all is not lost! MacArthur has attempted to become an American caesar, but he seems to have forgotten Caesar's fate! However, this time, we will not let oppression continue as Brutus and his comrades did! We will strike at the root of all oppression, capitalism!

And thus true chaos starts.

It seems so, yes.

Quite like the Peoples church.. Im curious to see the development of this modernist Syndie Catholicism

You will. It might take some time what with the civil war about to begin, but there will updates focusing on the revolution and how well society is changing. :)

Reed totally had a chance to win the presidency. But yup now comes the civil war and all her horrible glory.

Yup! we shall strike at him. Of course, there is also Huey Long who might do stuff. Forward for the revolution!

Now it is the time to rise up and establish a Totalist Socialist paradise!

Totalist CSA would be a nightmare for the characters. :p

Also I will mention here that even though mechanically there is about 2 months between MacArthur taking power and the actual 'rise up' event of the CSA. I am going to be going narratively that in the month between the two that is when the CSA is out right taking over in their areas. So there will be stuff going on between the coup and the event. :)

And thus true chaos starts.

Indeed, now begins the Chaos. :)

It seems so, yes.

Yup. The characters are going to be in for Hell once they actually start to see what fighting for their revolution is like.

Wouldn't the electoral college prevent it ? I mean even with the situation the US are in KR I doubt the CSA and allies could get the absolute majority. That leaves the Congress arbitrating between the candidates no ? They would choose the status quo rather a revolutionary IMO (Sorry if I'm wrong, not an expert on American constitution :p )

Also, what's Ukraine up to at this point (I assume they've picked a focus path)? If they go Khruschev the International has an ally perfectly placed to tear through the German puppets. And yeah Attalus, Reed would never be able to get a majority in the electoral college, so it'd go to the House of Representatives, and even though the syndies would have some presence there, they wouldn't have a majority.

Reed has a good shot, a long one but not impossible. Mainly because the Steel Belt has a number of electoral college votes. If he can expand past the core base by just a handful states he can win. If he wins Minnosota, Iowa, West Virginia, Kentuky and Missouri plus his core and he wins. That said, I do agree that it would lean towards Curtis or Garner most times.

Ukraine goes down the Disolve the Rada path. It isn't commented on because the characters aren't Ukranian, they are polish-americans and thus the matters of Poland do interest them.

Will the Papal Volunteers of the AUS have a part to play?

maybe...

Well just did the maths, in 1936 you need 266 great electors to win. Counting the CSA states at the beginning you get 199 great electors (with whole state of New-York). If you add the western states which got unions spawning in the Civil War (Minnesota, Missouri and Iowa) you get 37 more which gives you 236. Still lack 24 electors. New-England is out of the question given how Vermont and Maine were strong Republican strongholds and the lack of dissent with the Canadian occupation in the Civil War. Maybe Maryland and Virginias could be won but that's still quite complicated for them to win anyway (and that's assuming the CSA win all the aforementioned states, in a contested election with 4 possible winners it would be complicated).
But anyway Mc Arthur avoided that and I guess post-revolutionary America will not keep this old relic and go by popular suffrage :p

To the Barricades!
Pittsburgh – October 15th -1936

[one of the many barricades that formed in Pittsburgh during the chaos as the soldiers tried to enforce martial law]

The city of Pittsburgh was in a flurry of activity. Though it had been just a couple of weeks. In those weeks things were moving at a rapid pace. The decision for the army to take control of the country was met with outright hostility within steel city. One thing that motivated almost everyone regardless of class or political affiliation was that the army should not have taken control.

What concerned everyone was when the Pittsburgh division of the Pennsylvania National Guard divided itself. Some swore to follow MacArthur's order and others opposed him. The division in the national guard stopped a sudden take over the city but threw everything into a panic. Since those that supported MacArthur left and everyone knew that the Army would be right behind them.

This meant the formation of Barricades started to pop up throughout the city. They mostly tended to crop up near the train stations. If the army was going to come then they would find Steel City a fortress that no tyrant will ever be able to take. No one knew when the army was going to arrive but what they were going to do when the army arrived; everyone had their own thoughts none were pleasant though. The most common that were whispered throughout the city were mass arrests and mass killings and sometimes both.

Evelyn, Charles, and Jessica were at one of the barricades near Union Station on a side street just off of Grant Street. Where they were helping to build up the barricade with sand bags and bricks. No one in the city had any idea what was going to happen and so the call had gone out to members of the CSA to prepare for when they show up and for what ever happens.

You honestly think this barricade will do any good if MacArthur's goons show up?” Jessica said as she placed on Sandbag down.

I don't know what will happen when the army arrives but I will not let them just walk in her off the train and let MacArthur have his tyrannical way here in our city. This is our city that they want to despoil through martial law and our people that they wish to arrest.” Evelyn said as well as she put some bricks down and then let out a soft sigh.

I don't know. Here is hoping that it doesn't come to fighting. But if it does at least we can keep people safe from harm behind this makeshift wall.” Charles said as well shortly after Evelyn spoke.

I certainly hope that we do not have to actually use the guns” Jessica said

I pray that we do not as well. I had hoped we would never have to take up guns like the British and French did, but it seems that we have little choice now.” Jessica said.

The Army is almost here.” A policeman said running up to the barricade pausing to catch his breath.

Uhm, What should we do?” Evelyn asked voicing the concern of the people here at having very little clue about actually what to do.

The Police and The National Guard, those that are loyal anyways, are going to try and speak with the Army try and force them to realize that they can't take this city and they won't be arresting anyone here. Yinz should keep watch here and if any of yinz are nurses or doctors then that might come in handy should they refuse to leave our city.” the officer said.

If they refuse to do that?” Charles asked.

Then we are going to fight like hell for our city and I recommend that yinz do the same. I am not going to let some wannabe kaiser try and take over our country, and I am certainly not going to let some thugs take over our city.” The officer said.

With that the officer left the group to to go towards Union Station. The group at the barricade would wait nervously for about an hour and half. Just waiting for some word as to what has happened at Union Station. Then they heard Gun shots in the air.

Oh God!” Jessica said at the sound of gunfire in the distance.

Stay behind the barricade. If.. If we stay behind the Barricade then we are safer from their guns” Evelyn said as she tried to make everyone remain calm though with obvious nervousness and fear in her voice despite trying to rally people to safety. Though despite her fear, the people in the street did move behind the barricade. No one wished to be caught by the soldiers.

Shots would continue to be heard for nearly another hour and half as the soldiers would move from street to street. The group at the barricade were clearly afraid. Though they were willing to fight for what they believed in, none of them had actually any idea of what this meant. Moreover with the smoke that filled the streets made it difficult to figure out as to what the hell was going on.

Then they saw a police officer run up to them coming from the other side of the street, away from the barricade. He was bleeding from his shoulder, yet seemed to ignore his wound while he took a moment to catch his breath before he spoke.

I am officer Thomas Maslanka, the soldiers have shown their true colors. They are mass arresting everyone they can and holding them in Union Station. Those that resist are being shot on sight.” The police officer explained to them which shocked the group. After a moment the officer, “Anyways, do any of yinz know how to use a gun.”

Only one person spoke up,“I know how to use a hunting rifle will that do?

Better then nothing. We do not have time to do any training but you take that rifle there. Yinz lot can use these pistols.” the officer said handing them several pistols though Jessica refused to take it shaking her head when she was presented with the gun.

It wasn't long before about half a dozen soldiers entered their street and leveled their guns at the barricade.

You lot are all under arrest by the order of General MacArthur for breaking the order of Martial Law, Resisting the arrest, and for anarchistic subversive lot.” One of the soldiers barked at them.

You have no authority in the city of Pittsburgh and we certainly won't let the army run our city. So yinz can just go to hell or where-ever you loyal thugs came from” The Officer barked back to the soldiers.

Fire!” One of the soldiers shouted as soon as the police officer finished talking. Everyone ducked behind the barrel with the hunter and the officer shooting with a rifle back, while Evelyn and Charles shot with their pistols. Several of the people tried to stay behind the barricades just hoping not to get shot. Jessica was among those who were hunkered down behind the barricade obviously afraid as she prayed in polish.

After several minutes of bullets flying everywhere, the soldiers retreated the street and turned towards Union Station. Though the sounds of gunfire could be heard throughout the city going on, only stopping every now and then just to pick up later. The officer turned to the Group. “We have them on the run. I am going to try and see if we can kick these sons of bitches out of our town. Those that wish to help follow me, those that wish to remain safe stay here.”

I am in” Charles said

As am I.” Evelyn said. Jessica would look around for a moment before taking a sigh.

I.. I will come. I don't like fighting but maybe I can help those that were captured by these jagoffs.” Jessica said with fear in her voice.

With that they took off towards Union Station. As they moved from street to street others seeing them started to follow them. Once they reached Grant Street, it was no longer a small group but a large mob that was descending upon Union Station. Everyone was expecting another fight and a last ditch effort by the soldiers. However that was not to be at seeing the size of the force descending upon the station on all directions the soldiers instead retreated into the train that was parked there. Soon after they left the city though as they left one of the soldiers would shout to the people,

MacArthur will see you all executed for your treason, you murderous anarchists.”

As soon as the soldiers left there was a great deal of emotion. The whole crowd cheered. Those that had been brought there as a makeshift jail breathed a sigh of relief and hugged each other. A euphoria filled the air as people watched the soldiers leave. While most took in the joy of the moment, Jessica and several other women and a few men took time to help people with their wounds starting with officer Maslanka. Everyone knew that the army would return but for today they showed MacArthur that his rule can be questioned and if necessary force will be used to protect the freedom that Americans cherished so dearly. The 'battle for Pittsburgh' as people started to call it lasted almost a whole day, yet even though night was here the joy people felt at this moment would not be taken by sleep. No one knew what the next day would bring and while everyone knew they were to prepare for the counter attack or the next move, for just right now they were going to celebrate this victory.

Awwwww, no Eastern European ally to tear through Mitteleuropa

alas nope. Well just means we will have to liberate them in the future.

Yea, that is one thing that the new America will not be keeping. Though we got many miles before we get to the whole new constitution that will be written up for America.

A well written AAR. Subbed.

Thank you. Glad that you are enjoying the AAR. :)

And that is how a civil war begins

Indeed.

Hopefully the Avenging Army of Father Coughlin rises up

Well MacArthur is cracking down on both Long and the CSA and Coughlin is allied with Long so, he will likely rise up. Eventually there will be more stuff with Coughlin, but will be some time before we get there.

Maybe the Russians will see the light...

Alas no. The Russians have chosen to make Dmitri the new Tsar. TBH I much prefer Russia in KR not going syndie, gives me more of a challenge. Of course Russia isn't likely to enter into the story all that much, certainly not for a while. :)

Yeah, I also prefer it not going syndie. However, I like it when it goes liberal (or left-leaning) democracy, because you generally don't see many important democracies who aren't more about being reactionaries than being democracies.
