1940- The Last Battle

Foreword: I started with Germany in the 1939 scenario to get a taste of war immediately. I got more than that. With Poland and Denmark in my arms by late September, I was able to divert my Eastern armies to the task of conquering the Aegean states and those to the north. Like dominoes, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and finally Greece fell. The only one to surrender was Greece, and unfortunately the leaders of the other countries fled to their allies. Turkey was in an alliance with Yugoslavia and has declared war on me as well...Ha!

In the west, I faced little resistance in my quest for France. I took a historic route from the Netherlands to Northern France, where I took Dunkurque (sp?) as my first city and was able to penetrate into the Paris area. French units had to be pulled from the Maginot line, and my forces were quick to take the abandoned forts and create a bulge in central France. The northern Maginot line was almost completely surrounded, and several failed attempts at conquering Luxembourg and Saarlouis (all had either been repelled or the provinces recaptured) had left them devastated. Within a few weeks, the might of the Italian forces and the German armies to the East and North became too strong for the French and they surrendered. Vichy France was and still is a minor burden, but I declared war on them and all that is left of Vichy France are their African colonies, and I have 9k soldiers there slowly capturing the important cities on their march to Tunis. (I am unable to send ships directly through the Strait of Gibraltar as the voyage around the Iberian Penninsula is long and the British have a strong naval presence there.

Today, on May 4, 1940, Germany is expanding rapidly and Hitler wakes up every morning to hear news of success. But May 4 is a special day to Adolf. It marks the date of the invasion of Britain. His transports ready, his soldiers in the ports, the stage is set for an invasion of his arch nemesis. Ah, Britain, naive fools. For a few months now, German bombers had blown the ports of southern England to nothing but a smoldering pile of debris, and dozens of ships were destroyed. Just a few days ago, an entire fleet was smashed at the Eastern English Channel. The English capital ships barely made it out alive, and they lost three whole destroyers. No, there would be absolutely no British naval intervention to halt the invasion.

Adolf faces his cabinet. "Gentlemen, I assume everything is ready. An hour before midnight tonight, our transports must be on the way to England. It is during the early morning that our soldiers should land on their shores. However, I would be pleased with an earlier date as well."

Heimmler nodded. "Yes, Fuhrer, everything is prepared."

A red-faced Rudolf Hess shuffled his papers and pushed them forward towards Hitler. "Fuhrer, we have no fuel left. Or rare materials. Our industry is too large to be supported by the current output. 600 IC is quite a large number. We can only power approximately 75% of it."

The Fuhrer contemplated this. He withdrew a lighter from his pocket and put it up to the paper. With a flick of his thumb, it burned up within 30 seconds. "This does not effect our current plans at all. Do not waste my time again, Hess. When I need a report on the economy, I shall tell you. Do you understand me?"

Hess had not expected this. "Fuh-"

"You may leave, Hess. Come back at the next meeting." Rudolf Hess, shocked, slowly stood up and left.

When he was out of sight, Hitler put a giant map on the table. "This is our plan.

"The red circles are primary and immediate objectives, the blue objectives are secondary and the green line is where I expect our forces to be my mid-June. Do not let me down, gentlemen."
