Any chance of implementing 99.999 resource units cap? I rather liked it in HOI3 demo, and can see on the forums that it is also implemented in full game. Would like to see that feature in AOD also :)

I would prefer a Cap that is defined as an IC multiplier, for example Cap = Enough resources to power you industry for X days.

So if you set X to 100 in the text file a nation with 200 IC would be able to store 40,000 energy, 20,000 metal and 10,000 rares. Oil & Supplies stockpile cap could be 20,000 too I guess (using multiplier 1).

Another common Idea regarding stockpile caps is to have a very small percentage of total amount decay each day. If 0.5% is lost each day a base surplus of +100 would let your stockpile level out at 20,000.

That system would be auto-balancing and still allow you to stockpile large amounts, but at a rapidly increasing cost. But it might require resource outputs to be increased slightly to compensate (via techs or otherwise).

Both these options would be even better and more professional solutions then the 99.9k in HoI3 Imho.

I think a simple multiplyer would be the best way (simple to understand and doesn't use up memory, compared tu alex's proposal that requires at least a dayly check of 4 tipes of resources per nation)

sonthing like this:

1 IC=1000cap
Afganistan= 4000 cap
USA= 400000cap

this would also simulate the efect of areal bombing over the stockpiles as the distruction of 10 IC would result in the distruction of 10k of resources provided that they are at max capacity.

Of course I have no dea if it is posible to do this on the HOI engine.

There is going to be a large number of people complaining no matter what they decide to do. It would probably be best to let the players set the resource cap at the beginning of each game. Kind of like difficulty modifiers.

Properly balance resources so there aren't huge surpluses and you won't need a cap.

That depends. If you wanna have a balanced game then yes but if you wanna make numbers close to reality it will need a cap. Cap based on IC is better solution than some static 99K limit.
Cap should change with IC - something like x*IC (x could be modified by some factors like technology) so one country could only store 5K and other something like 200K. Maybe additional modifier:
x*y*IC where y would be individual modifier based on resource type so every resource would have its own independent cap

A different type of idea: instead of a cap, make the stock pile decay, like a 0.1% daily or whatever. If you don't use it, or you don't trade it away, it will slowly vanish...

A variant of this idea is to charge a "maintenance expense" in money for example, so that the bigger your stock, the more you must keep paying daily, simulating your storage and maintance effort.

I like that idea! But I would combine it with 'the mobile cap'.

If you would look at the HoI 3 Forums, an angry mob already appeared because of the resource cap. If AoD had a resource cap and explicitly announced it, I wonder how that angry mob would affect the potential sales of the game. :D

The best thing would be to have a compromise so that players can choose whether or not to set a resource cap. :)

If an angry mob growing up on US war movies would like almost immortal heroic US soldiers killing 100ds of germans each would it be ok?
There never were vast stockpiles in history - everything had its cap. Men working in magazines and in logistics + transport capacity + costs + wasted material + ... + ... This cap simulates all that. It is just abstracted and simple.
I remember having such huge resource stockpiles already in 1938 HoI2 while playing Germany that I could just finish all trades and go on that stocks till the end.
If thats better then why dont we just give all countries unlimited amout of supplies or even better - lets make IC costless?

How bout no cap, but stockpile 'attrition'? Basically, you stockpile grows until the growth rate equalizes the waste rate making the de-facto stockpile cap x-days of resource production with possibility to go beyond that through trading, although inefficient.

We don't know yet if that changed the starting IC for each nation, we don't know if they balanced the resource map and we don't know if the IC build costs are the same. I say that a hard 99999 cap is alright for the moment and the community will bring up a balance solution for the first patch.

Another idea would be to have a economic model that reflected the reality of a market driven pricing system. The more supply demand impanance the higher the price. This would have the potential to reduce extreme hording.

I would also agree to a slight stockpile decay.
