I think this event requires the province to be your culture and for you to be the default nation for that culture which is why you rarely see it outside of Byzantium or Russia. But yeah my whole strategy with Byzantium is to use Bulgarian nationalists to revolt out and Greek patriots to flip Edirne which kicks the Ottomans out of Europe in the first war after you take your other cores.

I had this event a few times. In fact I conquered half of Northern Italy that way. It was funny because I made most of them core by the end of that war and I didn't get the emperor couldn't demand them back :p

Well, I did the calculation above and given the math he provided, assuming it is correct, this is not, in fact, a particularly low probability event. The key element, of course, is the -50 prestige which requires beating the utter heck out of your enemy such that subsequent wars they fight with nearby weak countries doesn't yield sufficient prestige for them to recover.

I also have not seen this happen with the rebel units still on the board. It may well be that it could happen anyway, but the times I've seen this, the rebel stack was gone before the event fired.

The min req 15 WE of the target country is probably the main inhibitor to seeing this fire often. Since the AI will happily buy down dozens of WE you'll only see the possibility of the event firing once you've held on to a sizable chunk of the nation for a year or two. And once that's done you need to keep your own WE under 5, which is a problem if you start getting call for peace.

-50 prestige isn't too hard IMO. Winning lots of small battles always skyrockets your prestige while killing the enemy prestige.

of the 5 or so games I played as Russia in the 1583 scenario, like 3-4 times I had mogilev defect to me like that in the first 3 years of war with Poland.

also had similar things happen when I played horde nations

MTTH is 300 months * 0.8 * 0.8 if the target is below -50 prestige, Ultrix, so it's still pretty long. Unrealistic for non-hordes.

Incidentally, the only reason I kept that war going was to get Bulgarian patriots to flip Bulgaria to my vassal.

Instead, this happened.

d7c46faceb.jpg

Flipped to Wallachia... then revolted again a year later. The Bulgarians are just angry in general, one must suppose.

If you have a Bulgarian vassal, rebels won't revolt for it. It will go to another independent nation instead.

I think that event basically inspired MEIOU.

One Mod to Rule them All.

Lets hope the next good thing they "steal"/"borrow"/"loan"/"learn" from MEIOU is trade good developments, more complex ruler personalities and religious conversion mechanics (from Dharper).
And a lower limit of owned provinces before viceroyalties pop up. Current limit makes it somewhat gamey, which has its own good and bad results.

This is because patriot rebels will never defect to a subject nation, sadly.

This is because patriot rebels will never defect to a subject nation, sadly.

They choose free nations first, but if no other free nations exist with that culture, they'll flip to a vassal. It's not too hard to engineer, just make sure your vassal is the only one of that group. I had latvian (I think?) patriots flip provinces to my vassal of Finland in a Russia game.

You don't need to be default nation for a culture. Had this event today when played Hansa (got Hannover from Cologne).

It can also happen if the religion in that province is considered heretic but also the same as yours. Happened to me as Bahmanis (shia) occupying a shia province in the ottoman empire (sunni)
