88) I think you are right, it’s Bremen. Though FOTW list it as a possible mistake flag

85) Difficult one. It could also be Bremen in fact! I’m much more entitled to pick 7 for Croatian. Not sure about 85

71) Prussia was a good tip! I’m almost certain now that this is ‘Kurfürstentum Brandenburg’ - Electorate of Brandenburg 1356-1701.
According to FOTW it’s reported used 1695, 1700 and 1716.
I guess ca 1796 too, as this painting shows.

At the library w/my 7 year old today and started reading an interesting book on flags. There was a Dutch Chart circa 1700 of all known flags. Wish I had brought it home.

Anyhow the ones I remember are...

9. Pologne , which I believe is French for Poland, not sure though
85. Brabant
49. Malta
10. Moors?? I'm not fluent in dutch, but I'm sure that's what it said
59. Malta ( There were two different flags for Malta?? Can't remember what the difference was)
80. Looks like pre Union England
44. From the dutch, I gathered it was a Thai state
40. In Modern times this the US version of a 3-star admiral flag, not sure if it held back then
57. Looks vaguely like Venice
65. Could very well be Genoa
62. I believe this is Algiers
53. Tunisia??
17. Lubeck
56. Marseilles, Calais?? I know it's a french city
27. Sicily

60 = Hungarian Navy (Commercial)

I just found on the web several Hungarian sites that deals with the history of Hungarian Commercial Ships from pre WWI era (which was separate from the Austro-Hungarian Navy).

- See above -

My only concern is that the Hungarian Navy (what a paradox statement for a country that was raped to be landlocked) that the color should be Red - White - Green and the pic above reflects Red - White - (blueish - Green).

The shield of course a give away

I have also seen 53 used on Hungarian Naval ships in Fiume on a painting from 1876.

Why was green added as a national color after the red-white of the early dynasties?

Great! Thx

9) Polish Naval or war ensign (18th centuries)

85) Yep that’s another candidate, Seams like many places has this flag.

59) Tuscan Order of Saint Stephen – this is according to FOTW incorrectly reported as the flag of Malta in several flags books during the last 200 years!

65) Genoa, Saint George cross (-to 1805)

53) ? - not sure, I don’t think so?

27) Sicily naval Flag 18th/19th centuries

17) Free Hanseatic City of Lübeck (Germany) 1226-1937 … or …
Ancona (Italy) 18th centuries Naval Jack – probably a mistake flag, apparently common done, as it should be red over yellow

Can’t confirm
49) 10) 80) 44) 62) 56) 40) 57)

There are many candidates for this flag :)
I don’t think its Croatian, as i'm much more entitled to pick 8) for Croatian.
I can find no Croatian flag dating to the last 18th century looking like this.

Yes, that is the Russian Jack and fortress flag (1700-1917), as listed above
