8th Place And Not A Major Power????

I started playing as Mexico this morning and encountered what I think is a major bug. March, 1837, Mexico wins the war, and promptly annexes Texas. This jumped me from 10th to 8th place, dropping Spain into 9th. This SHOULD have made Mexico a Major Power, yet the game continues to show her as a Secondary Power, and Spain as Major. The resignation final screen shows it correctly.

Am I missing something here, or is this a huge game-killing bug?

You have to hold that place for (I think) 6 months, then you become a GP.

When you fall to 9th as a GP you get 6 months grace to do something about it. So if you wait 6 months and hold your rank you will become one of the big boys.

You need to wait for 6 months or 1 year (I dont know the exact amount anymore ^^) to get approven for your seat in the majors

It's not instant.
Spain will have some time to recover her place before losing her status as Great Power.
Viceversa, Mexico has to maintain her spot to become one.

Wait 6 months. If you are still 8th place you will become a GP. The old GP (now 9th place, probably) will have a little icon come up warning them they are in danger of losing status - it is in the diplomacy tab, and is shaded out for you to begin with (unless you become that 8th place GP and are in danger of losing status).

I believe it takes a few months for the change to take effect, to simulate your acceptance into the Great Power "club". I remember seeing it in an AAR about six months after promotion to the #8 spot.

It takes a few months for the international community to recognise you as a great power.

This stops 2 countries who are very close in 8th and 9th being bumped in and out of GP status every few days, which would be irritating.

You have to wait half a year to be recognised as GP, in this time the old GP has a chance to get some prestige and regain it's place without losing their SoI.
