I understand this, I just don't think we are going to see eye-to-eye on this issue. I know that the Slavs were much closer to each other than any of the other groups culturally and linguistically. Would any HIP dev like to weigh in on this? Am I wrong?

Do you mean collapsing the East, South and West Slavic culture groups from HIP into one? No, i defintely wouldn't recommend that, it would result in very undesirable in-game behaviour where people from Novgorod would see absolutely no problem with someone from Ohrid ruling over them

My idea was to make the big slavic culture group break up in 900 when slavs got divided by setteling hungarians. Also in 900 the three new slavic cultures should break up into hip vanilla ones (except bosnian which should be divided). I think thats the best deal for history, gameplay and accuracy

In 900 the cultural setup should shift into this:

austria becoming german, szepes moravian and the red ones serbian. others croatian/bulgarian. So why arent branicevo, belgrade and syrmia bulgarian like in vanilla hip? Because those areas were controlled but not populated by bulgarians and later given back to serbs. The timočani serbs of barnicevo/niš are even mentioned in many sources. Why is omiš/hvar croatian? Because it was always up to this day chakavian croatian and the neretljani gusars are of croatian national history. Where is the bosnian culture? There was none. Its was croatian and serbian. Later they isolated themselves with the bosnian state and its people embracing the bogumilist faith. But in my eyes even then there was no bosnian cultural difference. It came first with the ottoman invasion and croatians/serbs in this area embracing the sunni faith and turkish way of living.

EDIT:
Also croatians should use the "gussars" cultural units like every other south slavs/albanians. There was no heavy infantry. Only light gussars and light infantrists

Those counties haven't been touched. I will make them Orthodox when I do those areas.

@TheDovahkiin97

900 is out of the scope of this mod. Keep notes though. I might have to expand it.

So why is bach avar again?
And why are there bulgarian provinces?

I don't know about Bach, but I'll fix it. The Bulgarian provinces are going to be changed when I get to those areas. This was just a screenshot for The Pannonian Basin, Bohemia, and Moravia. I'm doing Bulgaria, and rest of the Balkans now.

I think thats because the bolohoveni romanians are believed to be tengrists.
And Barlad is indeed a hard question im unable to answer.
People think they were pagans but slavic pagans not tengri since tengriism is kinda a steppe people religion.

Those counties haven't been touched. I will make them Orthodox when I do those areas.
Ok then I'll wait for you to get there.

Also
Should the aromanians of niš/naissus be cristian? What do you guys think?
Yes.

Bacs keeps switching to Avar because the game is generating an Avar nomadic chief to control that province. When it does the province swaps to Avar. Does anyone a) know how to stop the game from generating that character and b) know how to set a character's primary settlement?

Were the Avars Tengri?

If i remember correctly it is related to holding too much land as a Nomad liege. I'm pretty sure it will auto-generate clans for you.

ETA: I'm not sure though. It's been a while since i last dealt with the Nomads. I'll inquire with Ese for you, he's done work on the steppes regularly, so he'll be of more help to you.

It's not that. In the province file it's set to proto_south_slavic and slavic_pagan and it loads avar and tengri_pagan when the game starts. I have no idea why.

This looks way too ambitious to be true.
Are you planning to correctly include all the cultural melting pots? If so what are they?

Yeah. The melting pots shouldn't be too hard, but I can always roll back to the regular vanilla cultures if I need. To tell you the truth, they will be a lot easier than the tedious history editing.
