So I have a question concerning the culture changes that are supposed to happen in the game. Particularly the changes from Lombard to Italian, the breakdown of Frankish into Dutch and French, the change from Saxon to German, the change from Suebi to Portuguese, and the change from Visigothic to Castillian and Catalan.
Under this modpack, I've never seen Frankish start flipping to French. France, Austrasia, and Burgundy always stay Frankish. The Lombard to Italian shift never seems to happen, even after the kingdom gets renamed to Italy. I've seen the option to become Italian when I've played as a Lombard, but the AI never seems to take it. And in the miracle that Karl actually manages to take Saxony and beat Widukind (seriously he's succeeded like twice in all of my games and once was only because he managed to capture Wichimann in battle and didn't immediately torture him), I've never seen Saxon culture even start switching to German. Visigothic also never seems to breakdown into Castillian and Catalan. So is there something that I am missing about how it happens? Do the kingdoms need to all be separate for the cultures to diverge? I've looked in the culture change files for emf and it didn't seem too different from the standard game's culture shifts. I've tried turning faster melting pots on and it still doesn't help. For additional info, Pictish and Breton to Norse-Gael work just fine and Pictish to Scottish works just fine. I've also cheated and split Leon, Galicia, Castille, Navarra, and Aragon up and the cultures have still never diverged even to the end of the game. Is there something just wrong with my installation?
