Hi,

Playing with DD-SMEP and DD-DAIM as Germany from '36, in 1941 when I thought I might start Barbarossa, I noticed that the Soviets had 600+ Infantry divisions. These were deployed in 50 unit stacks along the former Polish border.

So my question is: is this normal for DAIM? I loaded up the '41 scenario and saw that Russia had about 250 divs.

My problem is that my computer is quite old, and with 600 sov divisions the game is too slow to be playable. Otherwise I love DAIM and always play with it, this is my first game with the latest DD version.

cheers,

kilolima

600 divisions sounds a bit too much - what difficulty are you playing at? DAIM Russia usually builds much more divisions than the standard AI does, but this sounds like more than expected. Maybe SMEP has an influence as well, who knows.

I just read that SMEP removes the dissent for the officer purges - this results in considerable extra IC for Russia and helps explain what you're seeing. Together with "hard" difficulty (using that myself as well) that should be it.

First of all, about the purges. I think the AI cheats about dissent anyway.
I noticed that when game starts(1936) the Soviets immedietly get 222 effective IC. While a human player plays with the USSR he gets much less, and surprisingly, I got excactly 222 IC after getting rid of the dissent. Im sure that the AI is cheating about the dissent, at least in the IC aspect of it.
I dont think its DD-SMEP... I think its just the "hard" option. Doesnt it give USSR +10% IC? If it does, I think 600 divisions is quite normal.

I have something to ask about USSR AI in DAIM. Why does it put all of its units in the first line? Its a very bad defence formation. Dont you think most of the units should be in the rear? And that any province should be covered with small amount divisions to waste German power while fighting small groups and preventing Germany from achieving easy encirclements?

The AI certainly doesn't play by the same rules when it comes to dissent. However, it still has an impact and will thus change the balance.
When playing as Germany, I always use Hard and the Soviets don't have 600 divisions by mid 1941, it's more like 500-550.

Fine-tuning the Soviet defense strategy is a difficult thing to do. When giving too many guidelines, often enough the AI screws up badly as a result. I think it is okay the way it is, although improvements are certainly possible.

Im Playing on normal as Germany and by june 1941 the Soviats had around 350 divs.
They Stacked the majority of them right up on my frontier. On june the 11th I invaded whiped out about 100 divs in first week!!
Its now November and and they have about 150 divs left I dont see them makeing a counter attack like historicaly.
I have 20 panzer divs at the gates of Moscow im holding them back to give the Soviats a chance!!

I loaded up as Soviats to have a look at there build que. In that situation they should be pumping out vanilla infantry.
They have only 8 Inf builds going most of there IC is going on Tanks and Aircraft!!
There slider is more towards Standing army than conscripts could this be the reason?
If so ide like to load up and make them Full conscripted cant remeber the cheat though?
Is there any way i cant give them 100 inf divs out of thin air as well I want to get my arse kicked back to berlin dam it
